Fire causes crop damage at Ken Pomehichuk farm
Shoal Lake and Birtle volunteers rushed to a stubble fire on the Ken Pomehichuk farm two miles north and two miles west on PR 254. Responders arrived around 5 00 PM on Thursday September 9. Firefighters stopped the blaze from spreading to adjacent crop damage.

Bermed home to get energy grant at Shoal Lake
Marc Lalonde and Wilson Parasiuk announce a bermed energy efficient house for Shoal Lake under the Canada Manitoba Energy Demonstration Agreement. A $5,000 shared grant funds the project. The Wayne Ewachewski home is built into a hillside with three below ground concrete walls and a glass south wall. The design aims for 60 to 70 percent annual energy savings with a central atrium triple pane windows and an energy efficient fireplace. Construction is monitored by Scouten Mitchel Sigurdson and Associates of Winnipeg.
