On Sunday September 19 Rossburn joins thousands to support the Terry Fox Memorial Fund. A 10 km route used since 1981 runs with 1:30 PM start from Rossburn Arena. Registration at 1:00 PM. checkpoints each mile and refreshments at the rink. Memorial sheets available at local offices. donations welcome at the arena.
The Cultural Affairs and Historical Resources Minister announced $275,859 in operating grants for 14 rural public libraries for the 1982 fiscal year. Grants include a per capita base, an equalization component for lower levy areas, and an incentive for higher local support. Notable amounts include Rossburn Regional Library at $5,309 and Russell and District Regional Library at $11,782.
Premier Howard Pawley announced a second round of talks with Indian and Metis leaders on aboriginal rights, starting September 16 with the Manitoba Metis Federation. The process aims to reach consensus ahead of a First Ministers Constitutional Conference planned for early 1983, addressing rights definitions, representation, consent, land claims, hunting and trapping, and economic development on reserves. The Manitoba plan aligns with a national effort and a federal provincial native process, with an initial October federal-provincial-native meeting tentatively set in Winnipeg.
