A letter from J L Mander, VP of Waywasee cappa Oil Co., reports drilling will begin late this week east of Birdtail near Rossburn. Operations will run 24 hours daily in three eight hour shifts. Seepages noted in 1935 along Birdtail River indicate potential oil presence.

Mr D A Black of Winnipeg visited his brother and sister in law J D Black last week. Mr and Mrs Michael Raginsky and Mrs Stanley Antonation motored to Brandon last Thursday. Mr and Mrs A E Bennett and daughter Penelope of Winnipeg visited Mr and Mrs Harry Whyman over the weekend. Mrs Geo Bennett Jr of Norwood and Mrs Clara Bennett of St Vital visited over the weekend. Mr and Mrs W C Bennett and daughter Maureen of Winnipeg were guests at the Whyman home for a few days.

Last Rites Held For Beloved Rossburn Pastor
Rev Moses Edward Nixon a highly regarded United Church minister who served Manitoba for 43 years died at 73 in Rossburn on Sept 7 1948. Born in Clabby Ireland he served in Ireland Canada and Manitoba with the United Church and Methodists. He leaves a wife two daughters Kathleen Elizabeth and Mary Evelyn a son Reverend Wesley Nixon and a brother with two grandchildren. Funeral at Russell with Rev J McNeill and many church representatives. Interment in Rossburn cemetery.

Farewell Gathering For Mrs Brown In Rossburn Club
A farewell gathering in the Rossburn Club Room honored Mrs Bill Brown who recently left with her husband. Mrs Robi Stitt read an address and Mrs F Caldwell presented an Electric Tea Kettle. Mrs Crookshanks also spoke and gave a money purse. A lunch followed for about forty five guests.

Robbery pair sentenced in Birdtail Store case
John Oryniak and Mike Abramchuk, who pled guilty to robbery at Birdtail Store, appeared in Rossburn for sentencing. Oryniak 18 received one year with hard labor at Brandon jail. Abramchuk 28 received two years with hard labor at Manitoba Penitentiary.

Rossburn Creamery Wins Awards And Silver Medal
The Rossburn Creamery won two First Prizes and a Silver Medal for butter at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto and a First at the Central Canadian Exhibition in Ottawa. A butter sample was shown at the Western Fair in London Ontario. Congratulations are due to Mr. R Hutton and staff and the cream shippers for the cream quality.
