TOBA appeals for public help in break and enters

Police report a break in at a Rossburn area residence between July 6 and August 7 with items stolen including wrenches a Homelite chainsaw and a vehicle battery. The Day Care Centre on Waywayseecappo First Nation was broken into August 15 with toys taken and a green skillsaw stolen from a nearby shed. Rossburn RCMP at 859-2057 sought information.

Rossburn fire hall expansion adds third bay and upgrades

The Rossburn and District Fire Department enlarges its hall by adding a new section with a third bay for extra vehicles. A new overhead door is installed while meeting, cleanup, and wash areas move into the addition. About 15 firefighters led by Chief Larry Sidoryk and Deputy Chief Perry Brown serve nine incidents this year.

Grandview Rossburn historic road revival proposed

The RM of Rossburn council asks the federal government to upgrade and reconstruct the old Grandview to Rossburn road through Riding Mountain National Park. They seek to reopen the historic pioneer route, grandfathered into the park plan, to boost regional access and economy.

Manitoba Real Incomes Fall as Wages Lag Inflation

NDP Finance Critic Len Evans cites Statistics Canada data showing Manitoba weekly earnings dropped by $19.63 from 1988 to the first five months of 1997, while Canada rose by $11.79. Evans argues inflation eroded real incomes under the Filmon government and more Manitobans feel worse off. He notes growth in low wage service jobs worsened the trend.
