Rural Council seeks 30 mph limit for Vista area

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met September 9 1969 with Reeve John Mitchell and four councillors. They approved a financial report and a $25 grant to the Rossburn Lions Club for dental services, passed two by laws, and asked highways to restrict Provincial Road 472 to 30 mph inside Vista while moving 50 60 mph signs outside town limits. The board also ordered a patch report on Patrol Caterpillar No 14 and approved bills totaling 5775.32 before adjourning to October 14 1969.

Bursary Awarded to Verne Kawka for Agriculture Studies

Verne Kawka receives a $500 Manitoba Government bursary and enrolls in his third year of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba. He is also named resident don for the upcoming term.

Grindstone Point Area Declared Provincial Recreation Zone

A 63 805 acre expanse on the Grindstone Point Area western shore of Lake Winnipeg is reserved for future development as a provincial recreational area. The area includes 51 350 acres on the mainland at Grindstone Point 100 acres on Janora Island and 12 355 acres of water.

J Nicholas Mandziuk LL B Q C former M P for Marquette federal constituency died September 7 1969 at Winnipeg General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Mary two daughters Sonja Bejzyk and Darcia Zemianski both of Winnipeg one son Edmon ton Alta six grandchildren and one brother William of Gilbert Plains. A full obituary will be published in a following issue.

Summer Inventory Program Completed

Dauphin Parkland Development Corporation reports its summer inventory program finished with strong results. Three university students oversaw major research projects to understand the region, while five high school girls conducted a comprehensive July August manpower survey with an 80 percent completion rate.

Diane Pawluk Receives University Bursaries

Regional Plan Emphasis to Guide Manitoba Growth
