Rural Council Sets School District Actions in Sept 1964 Meeting

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met Sept 8 1964 with Reeve Alex Cleland and four councillors. They approved last month’s financial report and by law 888 on elections, appointed Frank Zegalski as arbitrator on a school district dissolution petition, and adjourned to Oct 7 1964.

High School Elects Campaign Teams and Grants Trips

The High School resumes magazine subscription sales including renewals and plans a sales drive at the start of next week. Three students Warren Brown-Peace Gardens Lesia Kaban-Gimli and Robert Stupinsky-Ontario earned trips and will report on them in coming issues. Two student council slates Purple Banner and Gold Banner announce campaigns with officers listed and speeches scheduled for Sept 16 and elections on Sept 18. Graduation is set for October 8 at Rossburn Town Hall.

Angusville Foxwarren Crown Juvenile Baseball Title

Angusville Foxwarren defeated Morden 17 0 in Angusville to open the finals. They edged Morden 8 7 at Morden Sunday to claim the provincial Juvenile Baseball title. Winning pitcher was Brian McCauley.

Bridal Shower Honors Helen Miller

A miscellaneous bridal shower was held on August 28 in the Hall for Helen Miller bride elect of September 5. She entered to Here Comes The Bride and was escorted to a decorated chair by Lynn Barlow. Her mother and sister Anne sat beside her, with Margaret Young and Katherine Armstrong assisting.

Vista and Rossburn United Church Women Meet

The Vista U C W met September 2 at Mrs. Wm Stitt’s with 9 members and 3 visitors. Grace Turnbull from Binscarth attended as area vice president. They planned continued Surprise Suppers as a fundraiser, announced Vista Church Plates for sale, and noted fall bazaar donations. The next meeting is October 7 at Mrs. M Miller’s.

Ladies Host A Graceful Tea Event

Helen led the ladies in song with a cheerful chorus of For She's A Jolly Good Fellow. Mrs Isabel Miller and Mrs Bessie McDonald served tea from silver pots at a neatly set table. A dainty lunch followed as 65 ladies signed the guest book.

Visiting Golfer Tops Local Fall Open Tournament

Cool weather at Rossburn Golf Club greets players as Birtle’s G. Brown shoots 42 34 38 for 114 to win the Championship Flight. Frankie Clement tops First Flight with 87, K Elvers wins Second Flight with 90, and R Bulger takes Last Flight with 98. Les Major earns Most Honest Golfer with 125.

Funeral Service for John Robert Carson Held in Rossburn Church

The funeral service for John Robert Carson age 50 was held Friday September 4 1964 at Rossburn United Church with Rev G Fulford officiating and Rossburn Legion members in attendance. Pallbearers were Bert Mitchell Wesley Williamson Rodney Nield Dave Cleland Aubrey Stickney and Ronat Veitch. Carson born and raised in Rossburn is survived by wife Louise son Wayne and daughter Beth, his mother Minnie Carson and sister Lizzie Cleland, along with other relatives. He served in the Royal Canadian Service Corps from 1940 to 1945 and farmed in the Sharman District. He was predeceased by his father Horace in 1952 and brothers Clarence and Elmer.
