Islay School opened Monday with Mr Jones, Mrs Munday and Miss Borodie teaching. Student Council met Tuesday and elected Lorne Mackedenski president and Bobby Hamilton monitors. Mr Jones leads social activities this year. Miss Borodie has eight beginners: Ronnie Miller, Lennard Mackedenski, Warren Brown, Philip Brown, Howard Brown, David Chegwin, Olga Charnyk and Louise Rogers.

Minshulls Celebrate Golden Wedding in Angusville
Mr and Mrs John A Minshull of 948 Jessie Ave Winnipeg marked their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday Sept 7 with friends visiting from afternoon to evening. They wed Sept 7 1904 in Stratford Ont officiated by Bishop Williams of Huron. The couple have three daughters and one son and two grandchildren. Harland Johnson, son of Mr and Mrs H E Johnson, long residents of Erickson, and grandson of C J Johnson, has been awarded the Union Carbide Undergraduate scholarship valued at 2000. The award, given by Union Carbide Canada Co Ltd, selects one high school graduate with strong academics in each major Canadian university to pursue a career in industry. Johnson, who graduated from Victoria Composite High School in Edmonton with a 192.8 average, will enter the university this fall.

Rossburn Council September Meeting Minutes in 1954
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held its regular monthly meeting on September 4 with all members present. The council leased a road diversion from John Carson. A grant was approved to the 4H Club at Vista. A resolution asked the Board of Transport Commissioners to urge CN to open and construct two railway crossings between Sections 28 and 33. The bills were passed for payment and the council adjourned to meet October 2, 1954.

Frank Clearwater, long time Oakburn section foreman, leaves Oakburn on September 1 with his family for Minto Manitoba where he will serve as Co N R Section foreman. A stag party at Art Ellis home honored him with a purse. Shirley received a dresser set at a surprise party. Bobby was given a wallet by school chums and a teacher. The Clearwater family will be missed in local social and business circles after fourteen years in Oakburn.
