Canada plans regulations under the Hazardous Products Act to require child resistant cigarette lighters. The rules will include a performance standard, hazard labeling, and public information, with industry and consumer groups consulted. Young children can operate lighters, causing fires, deaths, injuries and property damage annually.
Manitoba outlines tax relief and credits in its 1991-92 budget plan. Measures include 30 million dollar Retail Sales Tax relief, a payroll tax credit for employee training, and payroll tax relief for interprovincial trucking, plus extensions for small business tax holidays. Targeted tax increases include a 0.5 percent cigarette tax and a mining tax extension.
The Rossburn Economic Development Committee, formed in April/May 1990, includes members from the Rossburn business community Village of Rossburn RM Rossburn residents and aims to engage Town and A M councils and Waywayseecappa Band. It has conducted a survey of local stakeholders and held two introductory public meetings.
