Poppy campaign launches across Canada in October
The Royal Canadian Legion starts the 1990 poppy drive in late October across towns and villages to honor the 114000 Canadians who served in World Wars and Korea. Last year over 14.5 million poppies were distributed to raise funds for veteran and ex service member support and community aid programs. Governor General Ramon Hnatyshyn will receive the first poppy at Rideau Veterans Home Ottawa on October 23.

Elderly Manitoba man killed in two vehicle crash
Cecil Burdett, 74, of Foxwarren died from injuries after his pickup collided with a car one mile south of the PR 41 junction at 10 45 a m Tuesday October 16. The car’s driver was treated at Birtle District Health Centre. Police say the cause is under investigation.
