Car Fire and School Drill Reported by Rossburn Fire Department
The Rossburn Fire Department responded to a Cadillac blaze west of town on October 17 with eleven firefighters. Fire Chief Lorne Johnston cited possible electrical fault and the car was written off. no injuries were reported. A separate October 20 drill at Rossburn Elementary involved twelve firefighters and a full school evacuation completed in about 1 minute 30 seconds.

Local Board of Revision Rescheduled Over Work Overload
Municipal Affairs cannot produce the 1988 Assessment Roll in time for the Board of Revision meeting set for November 12 1987. The Board will be rescheduled to December 15 1987 at the District Assessment Office request. Other council items include banking arrangements with Toronto Dominion Bank, progress payments to Gooden Industries Ltd for a machine shed, and a MTS cable burial proposal. The Rossburn fire department recruited new volunteers and seeks eight fire fighting suits at 936.55 each, shareable 50 50 with the Village of Rossburn. RCMP to patrol Rossburn on Halloween evening
The Rossburn RCMP detachment will patrol Oct 31 with no expected troubles from trick or treaters. Sgt Larry Elke notes Halloween is usually quiet, weather permitting. Minor egg throwing or sign defacement can lead to mischief charges under the Highway Traffic Act depending on damage and risk to life.

Westman Cable TV reauthorized decoders for Shoal Lake and Rossburn residents after a weeks long scramble on Channel 8 caused by Atlanta’s update to its scrambling system. Service coordinator Steve Derlago explained the switch requires reauthorization via satellite, a process slowed by thousands of decoders on the market. Channel 8 returned Oct 22 after being down since mid October, drawing many calls from viewers who miss the station.
