Thomas Sill Foundation plans rural Manitoba start up grants
The Thomas Sill Foundation announces a five year program to fund up to 1 million dollars to create rural community foundations in Manitoba. It will match contributions on a 1 to 2 basis up to 100 thousand dollars over four years, with up to 2 thousand dollars for start up costs, and aims to spur foundations valued in the millions.

Recycling presentation at Rossburn Elementary for grades one to four
Linda Chegwin and Jan Peart of the Rossburn Recycling Committee led a recycling talk at Rossburn Elementary for classes 1 to 4. They discussed recycling and eco friendly lunches and demonstrated paper making. Students checked lunch boxes for eco friendliness. The kindergarten class received a vermi composter to compost food waste using worms.

Canadian Corporal returns to Ontario amid Haiti pullout
Cpl Dale Maxwell, from Rossburn, back on Canadian soil at CFB Trenton after the United Nations ordered seven Canadian Forces personnel out of Haiti on Oct 15 16 following the assassination of two former government members. The advance team prepared for engineers to aid rebuilding while sanctions tighten. Lt Col Brianing says the timing was right to avoid casualties.

Sept 4 1994 marks change for Canadian long distance calls within area codes to include the area code after 1. Manitoba example 1 204 before the seven digit number. Change driven by growth in telecommunication services such as computers faxes pagers and cell phones. MTS and Stentor urge planning upgrades to auto dial faxes modems and phones and note suppliers may need to adjust equipment and publicity materials.
