Diane Bailey reports Rossburn parents fault an outdated reading program for a 40 percent failure rate in Grades 1 to 3. Language Patterns, phased out by the Department of Education, relies mainly on phonics and has been used in Pelly Trail School Division for about 12 years. Spokesman Ray Armbruster says it omits necessary comprehension and broader language drills.
