The Voluntary Fire Brigade argues for proper housing for the truck before winter. They note the coal shed at the skating rink is inaccessible and water can’t be kept in the truck due to freezing. The nearest water source is Pete's Lake, six miles away, risking delayed response and fire damage. They challenge the Fire Chief to address immediate housing.
About 50 guests gathered October 12 at Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yaskiw’s Rossburn home for a surprise 25th wedding anniversary. Their son Ronnie spoke, friends recalled married life, and guests presented a Corsage Silverware Set and a tri light. A buffet, dancing to Rhythm Ramblers, and thanks from the couple followed. Out of town relatives joined from Shoal Lake Oakburn Portage la Prairie Kelloe Solsgirth Winnipeg.
The October Hospital Aid meeting at Mrs. Jean Lawless's home drew 17 members and 3 visitors. The group authorized fundraising to buy a portable electro cardiograph machine and formed a lunch sale committee. Prize went to Jessie Caldwell. next meeting is the annual on November 18 at Mrs. Anne Ston’s.
Congratulations go to Emerson E Strong as the lucky ticket holder for a cash prize at Brandon Gun Day Club held on Saturday September 20. The note comes from East Kildonan and Charleswood family and friends.
Progress continues on a large public school building admired by visitors from nearby towns. Roof work is hoped to be completed by mid November, signaling nearing completion of the prominent community project.
Nomination day drew scant turnout as councils and school board seats were filled by acclamation. In Rossburn RM Ward Two Bill Hyra and Ward Four Mike Batbie were re elected, village councillors Harry Werbowski and Mike Antonin also acclaimed. School board members R N Hutton Earle Taylor and Lawrence McMillan won by acclamation.
The weekly update reports back fill and stabilization on Mountain Ave and Victoria Ave east. Mountain Ave now in excellent condition with future plans for black topping next summer, pleasing Village residents.
The Rossburn Vis ta and surrounding rural schools met at Rossburn Collegiate on October 1 to reorganize the local. Mr Wood of the MTS Central office presided as officers were elected J. B. Robertson as President H Jones as Vice President E A Gunn as Secretary Treasurer Co V Gunn as Public Relations Officer. A new constitution was approved and a Membership Committee named M Tokar and Miss M Budz. Lunch was served by Miss M Hay L Veitch and E A Gunn.
Holidayers saw varied conditions from a cool east wind and snow on Saturday to sunny windy skies on Sunday. Thanksgiving Day brought clear sunshine and a high near 71 in Rossburn, while Virden enjoyed a mid summer high of 82.
About two hundred supporters gathered in Shoal Lake on Monday to elect officers for the coming year. Harry Pollock was named president and Stephen Waytwich secretary treasurer. Premier Duff Roblin spoke and was welcomed by Bob Smellie.
Local and General Dixon Stitt and J Haywood of Winnipeg were weekend visitors with Mrs Stitt Lottie and other relatives.
Auction dates include Matt Zosiak on October 2 and Alfred Mitchell on October 23 with J ff Menzies as auctioneer. The Birdtail W.1. hosts a Tea and Home Cooking Sale on October 18 at United Church Annie. A fowl supper is set for October 21 in Roseburn Town Hall at 6 PM by the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. Rossburn Agricultural Society meets October 22 at 8 PM in the Legion Hall. Vista W. A. plans tea bazaar and home cooking sale at the Rossburn church exon on October 25.
The Ukr. Women's Assoc thanks contributors and participants for a successful bingo evening raising $65. Prizes include pillow slips won by Mike Silewich, towels won by Wasyl Strank, tablecloths won by Bilb Pokropany, and many other items donated by local families such as Mrs. Tanasychuk, Mrs. Nychuk, Mrs. Belbas, and Mrs. Ukrainetz.
