Rossburn Rural Council Minutes September 1964 actions

Rossburn Rural Council chaired by Reeve Alex Cleland approves September financial report and grants of 20 to Rossburn Scholarship Fund and 300 to Rossburn village for rest room maintenance. Council directs change of PTH 45 reconstruction location and schedules Court of Revision November 17 and Tax Sale December 11. Next meeting set for November 10.

Rossburn WI Meeting Notes October 6

Rossburn Women's Institute met in the annex on Tuesday at 3 p.m. President Mrs. McIntosh chaired, with Mrs. Snider as Sec.Treas. Donations were given to the Rossburn School Scholarship CARE and U.C.W. The meeting opened with O Canada and the WI Creed and closed with The Queen. Lunch was served by hosts Stitt and Mrs. McIntosh.

Hamilton Family Reunion Held At Edmonton

Thanksgiving week end brought a large Hamilton gathering to Edmonton Alberta at the home of Ralph Lind and son Ross Red Deer and Vancouver attendees joined Rossburn Manitoba relatives for a first reunion since 1933. many family members attended with several absent due to distance or other commitments.

Credit Union Directors Meet in Rossburn

The Rossburn Credit Union Society held its October meeting on October 5 at 8 30 pm with guests Leonard Swaile from Cuna Insurance and Hugo Epp from League. Nineteen new members were approved bringing total to 408. credit committee approved 39 loans for 39000 dollars and 3 real estate loans totaling 16800 dollars with three extensions granted. A proposed insurance rule requires loans to be paid at least twice yearly to maintain coverage. The office will close for manager holidays October 17–24. Next meeting set for November 9 1964.

Vista Women's Institute Meeting at V Halliday Home

Vista Women's Institute met at the V Halliday home on Thursday evening. A report from the District Board Meeting was given. A bale of used clothing for the far east's needy will ship on Oct 26. Donations may be left at Young's Cafe. The November meeting is set for November 12 at 2 pm with Patricia McAuley speaking on Christmas Gifts From Your Kitchen. A lunch followed.

United Church Women Meet in Vista

The Vista United Church Women held a meeting on Wednesday October 7 at 2 p.m. at Mrs. W. Miller's home with 10 members and 2 visitors attending. A Thanksgiving Devotional was prepared by Mrs. Willis Stitt. A Bible Study Group led by Rev. Fulford was announced to discuss God and His Purpose. The first meeting is set for October 20 at 8 p.m. in the local church. Lunch followed the business portion. The next gathering is planned for November 4 at Mrs. H A Hamilton's home with Mrs. Miller to present the devotional.

Gizzard Yields 18 .22 Cartridges Found in Chicken

Mrs. C. Palmer at R. Hamilton's place reports a chicken’s gizzard contained eighteen empty .22 cartridges. The discovery raises questions about the bird’s exposure to ammunition. Authorities consider the incident unusual but non threatening to residents.

Rossburn U C W met on October 13 with Mrs Lorna Veitch presiding. Devotional theme Thankoffering led by Mary Hamilton and May Law Jess. Bazaar items noted, two Bibles donated to Community friendship committee. Will donate to P C T C and accept raise in 1965 allowance. Fall rally at Binsearth on Oct 21 with guest speaker Miss Boyd missionary from India. Work shop for new curriculum Oct 26. Fall Bazaar and Tea Oct 31 with bazaar etc. Bible Study begins Oct 15 led by Rev Fulford. Meeting ended with lunch.

Steve Shust Rites Held After Rossburn Resident Dies

Steve Shust 73, beloved husband of Anne Shust of Rossburn, died September 29 at Rossburn Hospital. Born in Ukraine he immigrated in 1900 and farmed in the Rossburn district. Survived by wife Anne, son Ed, daughters Susan Charney and Frances Kostesky, sixteen grandchildren, five sisters and one brother. Prayers in Parish Hall October 1 and funeral October 2 at Ukrainian Catholic Church Rossburn. Pallbearers listed. Rae's Funeral Home in charge.
