Graduation exercises for the Pelly Trail School Division were held in Rossburn Town Hall on Saturday October 3. Janet Johnston was valedictorian and scholarships totaling about 1650 were awarded to many students from several schools in the division.

Ernest John Hamilton 79, born in Montreal, died September 21 at Hamiota Hospital after living in Selsgarth area. Survived by wife Florence two sons Alex Penticton and Donald Selsmith a daughter Marjorie Fort Wayne and a sister Mrs. Crerar Winnipeg. Services held September 24 at St Stephen's Anglican Church with interment in Birtle cemetery. Rae's Funeral Home oversaw arrangements.

A mixed bridal shower for Robeena Miller was held in the hall Tuesday evening. Guests included her mother Mrs Miller aunt Mrs Crookshanks groom’s mother Mrs Mc Cutcheon grandmother Mrs Lesson and 88 ladies signed the guest book. Gifts were displayed on a farm wagon drawn in by Sandra Stitt and Douglas Clayton. Rebeena expressed thanks as corsages were pinned and a dainty lunch concluded the event.
A reader praises the book Remi’s Scenses of the Rossburn Pioneers published by the Women’s Institute and thanks Mrs Sparling. The letter notes four generations of grandparents and pioneers, mentions living parents Mr and Mrs Mike Glushka and Mrs Mike Leschyshyn at 87, and expresses desire to own a copy for family history.
Wm Hayball of Selsgirth brings two potatoes to the shop on Wednesday weighing 4 pounds and 3½ pounds each. He reports seven potatoes totaling almost 30 pounds. Elwyn MecFeeters contributes a potato tipping scales at 2½ pounds.
The Birtle-Russell Progressive Conservative Association met October 2 in Rossburn Town Hall with Ted Dupont as president. Officers elected include Secretary Dorothy Simms and Treasurer Sam Stitt, with delegates chosen for the Manitoba convention in Winnipeg.
After a two day holiday for the Teachers Convention activities resumed. The convention was at Bin searth for primary and secondary schools and at Oakburn for secondary schools only. Last Saturday night thirty eight district graduates attended the graduation exercises and dance at the Town Hall. Warren Brown spent a week at the International Peace Gardens for physical education training during the summer. Here is an account of his activities.
