Rural Electors Vote For Reeve On October Eighteen

Rural electors prepare to vote Friday October 18 for Reeve with Ed Shust facing Alec Cleland. Poll location details appear in the page six notice. Morley Brown and Mike Pawluk win re election to the rural council by acclamation. Shust cites unpaid taxes totaling 107000 dollars as a major financial issue. Mayor Earl Moffat is acclaimed to a fifth term along with councillors Peter Wiadyka and Harry Aylwin. Rossburn School board trustees Norm Major and Earl Taylor are re elected, with Mike Smyeniuk acclaimed to the third seat.

W A and W M S Combine Meeting Highlights

The WMS and WA held their monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, October 11 with 18 members present. The programs included hymns, prayers, a Japan skit by Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Gunn, and discussions on Legion Banquet catering and the Fowl Supper. A $10 donation was made to the Osborne Home for the Aged in Neepawa.

Rossburn Hospital Notes Announces Polio Vaccine Drive

Rossburn Hospital notes the receipt of polio vaccine for children six months or older who missed the first or second needle and for expectant mothers. Shots are by appointment at the doctor’s office on Saturday afternoons, with boosters to be offered at a forthcoming clinic.

Oakburn Community Bids Farewell To Mandziuks

Oakburn and Menzie residents hosted a farewell gathering for Mr. and Mrs. Mandziuk at the Ukrainian National Home on September 30. Peter Matiation welcomed the couple. Lecia Chalaturnyk presented Mrs. Mandziuk a bouquet of red roses as speakers from Ukrainian National Home U C Women’s League UCWA and local groups offered remarks. The event closed with a lunch after the farewell program.

Death Of Former Rossburn Resident At Windsor

Michael Prodan formerly of Glen Elmo Manitoba and Rossburn area died at 57 from chronic kidney ailment September 12 1957 in Metropolitan Hospital Windsor Ontario He moved to Windsor in 1929 worked for Ford Motor Co He was born in West Ukraine in 1900 arrived in Canada as an infant He is survived by wife Kay son Alexander and grandson as well as brothers William Harry and Tom and sisters Mrs Anne etc Funeral services were held at Anderson Funeral Home and St Vladimir Ukrainian Church with a large funeral procession and transportation provided by Ford and Chrysler He was known for optimism cheerfulness singing and willingness to help his friends and relatives

Passing of J. J. Huston in Rossburn District

Long-time Rossburn resident Joseph Irwin Huston died early Wednesday at his Rossburn home at age 79. An active figure in municipal affairs and pioneer in the area, he passed peacefully after a long life. The funeral is set for Saturday at 2 30 p m from the Rossburn Town Hall.

Rossburn Rural Council Meeting Minutes October Session

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held its regular meeting on Saturday October 5 with Reeve Ed Shust presiding and all councillors present. Minutes and the financial statement were approved. A one year subscription to Western Municipal News was authorized for the office. Correspondence from Shoal Lake reeve discussed a proposed health unit, and more information will be sought from Dr. Rafuse at the next meeting. By law on renominations and elections was passed. Approval granted to purchase a road diversion west of section 2-20 25. Appointment of R G Smelie c was noted. Bills approved for payment. Court of revision reassessment will be Wednesday November 6. Council adjourned to meet again Wednesday November ath.
