Tea and Sale Boost Organ Fund To 786.81

A tea and white elephant sale in the annex raised 21.70 for the Central Group of Ross burn W. A. organ fund. Additional donations from numerous local couples and individuals throughout the month bring the total to 786.81.

Shower In Honor Of Carol Collins

A large crowd of ladies attended a miscellaneous shower in the United Church Annex on October 1 honoring Carol Collins the bride elect for October 5. Cor sages were pinned on the bride elect her mother Mrs J Collins grandmother Mrs Danyleyko and groom’s sister Mrs G Lawless. After gifts were opened Carol thanked those present. A dainty lunch was served.

The Oakburn and district Teacher's Local No 4 holds its re organization meeting at Oakburn School on September 2 with thirteen members present. At the meeting the group determined to reach every home in the community with the Watch Tower account. The publication is noted as being published in 46 languages.

The Rossburn Women’s Institute met on Tuesday October 1 with 14 members and 2 visitors. The group sang O Canada and reviewed the 1958 program suggestions. A quilt sale yielded 99.21 dollars. funds will buy nursery supplies for the hospital. Pins were given to Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Thompson who are leaving town. The meeting closed with The Queen and lunch was served.

Notes On Tuesday October 1 High School Outing

Students and teachers hiked to Long Drive for a weiner roast and Indian Summer evening. A fire started by student “firemen” led to singing, roasting of weiners and marshmallows, and energy as trips up and down the hill continued. Room 2 formed a Junior Red Cross with officers Jerry Yaskiw Patsy Pradhnuk Gloria Kostesky. Scholarships awarded Mildred Kohach Janice Johnston and David Topolnnski from Zonta and Roger Goulet funds. World Series week delays to 1:30. teachers conventions on Oct 10 11 Thanksgiving Nov 14 return Nov 15.

Untimely Passing of J M McDonald in Oakburn

Funeral services were held for James Murdock McDonald of Oakburn who died at Winnipeg General Hospital on September 23 1957 at age 51. Dr J Carlyle Parker officiated at Westminster United Church with burial at Shoal Lake Cemetery. The community mourns a beloved citizen as family and many friends recall his kindness and leadership.

The Hospital Aid met at Mrs. O. Elvers home with 10 members and 1 visitor. Mrs. E. Caldwell presided as the meeting opened with the Lord's Prayer. Fund raising plans were discussed and the Animal Hospital Shower and Tea was scheduled in the town hall for October 12.
