The Rossburn Women’s Institute met on Tuesday October 1 with 14 members and 2 visitors. The group sang O Canada and reviewed the 1958 program suggestions. A quilt sale yielded 99.21 dollars. funds will buy nursery supplies for the hospital. Pins were given to Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Thompson who are leaving town. The meeting closed with The Queen and lunch was served.

Students and teachers hiked to Long Drive for a weiner roast and Indian Summer evening. A fire started by student “firemen” led to singing, roasting of weiners and marshmallows, and energy as trips up and down the hill continued. Untimely Passing of J M McDonald in Oakburn
Funeral services were held for James Murdock McDonald of Oakburn who died at Winnipeg General Hospital on September 23 1957 at age 51. Dr J Carlyle Parker officiated at Westminster United Church with burial at Shoal Lake Cemetery. The community mourns a beloved citizen as family and many friends recall his kindness and leadership.
