The column lists visits and family gatherings across Birdtail with residents including Mrs. L Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair, Mrs. Crookshanks, and Mr. and Mrs. Huston. Oct 2 birthday party for Marshal Peikoff, Ellaweena Mack also honored. New arrivals include a principal from Lisztowel Ont and a nurse at Rossburn hospital. A bazaar and tea planned Oct 25 by Birdtail Women's Institute. Sympathy extended to the Pidlubny family on their infant's death. Evan Stitt named principal at the new school. Miss Elwood and Nurse Viola Peden noted in town.
The United Church Ladies Aid announces a Fowl Supper at Thalberg School on October 28. Mr and Mrs Allan Kemp and son Melvin have returned to Winnipeg after a short visit with Mr and Mrs W Stitt.
A formal wedding was held October 4, 1947 at the home of Mr and Mrs Alex Andrew in Ranchvale uniting their daughter Mary Agnes with Glen Cameron Smith of Brumlie. Rev M Nixon officiated as guests dined after a 34 person buffet. The couple will reside in Brumlie.
In Birdtail, a marauder described as a bear killed a 300 pound sow during Adolph Kostesky's threshing absence. The pig pen was wrecked. three piglets survived. Neighbour armed with a 44-40 searched the area but no shots were reported. Also notes social visits and a wedding toast for Agnes Andrew and Glen Smith.
The article records residents visiting relatives in various homes including Mr. and Mrs. Lang Vance and Mrs. Sara Angus in Russell. It notes Selo Drosdoski visiting relatives, Jean Bell resuming studies, and a WMS meeting at Mrs. Rinn’s on Sept 24 with plans for an Oct 15 meeting at 3 pm.
Helen Hubert daughter of Mr and Mrs Philip Hubert of Oakburn married Walter Luhowy son of Mr and Mrs Wasyl Luhowy of Oakburn on October 4 at the Greek Catholic parish hall in Oakburn. Attendants included Jean Zapski Olga Hrytsak Olga Kowal John Labay Bill Yarysk and John Starczuk. A reception at the Ukrainian People's National Home followed.
Oakburn residents hosted and visited relatives from Brandon College Camp Shiro and Winnipeg. Notable entries include Stanly Kottick and family guests, Joseph Hubert at a sister’s wedding on October 4, and Anne Wachniak visiting her mother. Other locals, Mrs. Nelson Peden and Frank Malanchuk, were in Winnipeg for short periods during the harvest season. Nathan Unickow and family also spent time in Winnipeg this week.
In Angusville the community gathered for a harvest home at Miniski Church on Thursday night October 2. Attendees included Mrs Sharman Mrs Radcliff and Mr Nixon of Rossburn with Mr McNield of Russell giving the guest address. Mrs Radcliff visited the city clinic during a Winnipeg trip.
Mr F W Hay principal of Vista High School spent the weekend in Winnipeg. Mr Charles Hay visited his parents Mr and Mrs R Hay on Sunday. The incident notes a Robin Hood Flour Mills Co sign being painted on the Sabbath near a general store and questions if such work is practiced.
The Pidlubny family expresses thanks for kindness, sympathy, and support during their bereavement and their child illness. Special gratitude to Rev. Fedak, pallbearers, Mrs. Brown, and hospital staff.
