Most Memorable Night at Rossburn Fundraising Event

An amateur night sponsored by the Associated Canadian Travellers of Brandon and CKX and the Women's Institute of Rossburn drew a large turnout for a TB clinic fundraiser in Rossburn on a busy Saturday. The program featured local performers from Rossburn and surrounding areas, with proceeds and winners to be announced on Saturday Oct 4.

Vacancies Open for Rossburn Municipal Elections

Nomination Day for the Village of Rossburn and rural municipality councillors and school trustees is October 14 with elections on October 24. The 1947 elections are called the big elections as terms for Mayor J. G. Stitt and Reeve expire. The village council includes Stitt, Peden, Cormack and others.

Rossburn Hospital Tag Day Set for October 4

Local news notes the Junior Red Cross Society will lead hospital fund collections to keep Rossburn hospital operating. The Women's Institute plans thanks for local helpers and hosts a Bazaar on October 9 at Menzie’s shop starting 3 pm under WI auspices. Various visits and social items accompany the weekend’s happenings.

Harry Oswenski Takes Oath of Allegiance

On September 25 in the county court hall Judge Lindal administered the oath of allegiance to Harry Oswenski under the Canadian Citizenship Act of 1947. Oswenski pledged loyalty to King George VI and obedience to Canadian law, with the judge and local officials present. The ceremony aims to encourage more residents to attend future oaths.

Bear Kills Calf Near Town

A bear attacked a farm calf five miles east of town. Mrs Floryn found tracks five inches wide and the torn carcass near the stable. By afternoon only part of the calf remained. The bear returned that night but the meat was hidden.
