Land Acquisition For Rossburn Lagoon Expansion

Village council of Rossburn approves expropriation settlement of 12 000 dollars for land and damage costs linked to By law No 518. Agreement with landowners reached enabling Manitoba Water Services Board to extend the sewage lagoon by January 1 1978. Meeting also authorizes related expenses and a hall rental rate for ceramics classes.

Donations Boost Recreation Commission Tractor Scraper Fund

Donations continue to aid the Rossburn Arena project for a tractor mounted scraper and flooding machine. Contributors include Eleca Palmer Gordon Ament Doug Andrew and Sons who donated an overhead door for the ice machine shed. Continued support for this special project is greatly appreciated.

Large Turnips Dominate Local Gardens This Year

The Review Office displays oversized produce from area gardens. A 12 lb turnip from Harry Dros doski’s plot is shown with a claim it floats. A 10 lb turnip from Mrs Na herniak’s garden is noted, along with a 12% lb turnip from Mrs Char ney’s plot.

Local Postmaster Retired in Rossburn Ending Era of Service

Rowatt Veitch retired Tuesday Oct 4 as Rossburn postmaster after taking the role January 2 1962. Earlier postmasters included Jack Stitt and Lottie Stitt who led for three months. Dwain Lawless will helm the office until a new postmaster is appointed and the community newspaper praises the post office staff for years of help.

Student Council Elected at Rossburn Elementary School

The Rossburn Elementary School held student council elections on September 20 1977 selecting Grade 5 to 8 students. Elected for 1977 78 are Pres Sherryl Melnyk VP David Heindle Sec Rose Gensiorek Treas Chris Mohr and room reps Shelley Olyarnyk Larry Tanasychuk Betty Hryciuk Karen Kalyniuk and David Kosteky.

Recreation Worker Program Aims 100 Youth Jobs Across Manitoba

Tourism Minister Ben Hanuschak announces a winter Youth Worker Program to create employment for over 100 unemployed youths. Through the Manitoba Youth Secretariat and Recreation branch, the plan coordinates existing activities and launches new projects in more than 65 communities to organize events, maintain programs, and recruit volunteer leaders.

A September 21 and 22, 1977 hearing screening clinic for kindergarten through grade XII students at Rossburn Schools aimed to identify educationally at risk children due to hearing loss. Volunteers conducted initial screenings. results will be read by Jim Selinger, Audiologist, with further testing available if needed.
