Harry Graham increased his majority in the Birtle Russell riding as voters returned him to the legislature. Final provincial totals show PC 33 seats, NDP 23, Liberals 1. Returning officer W. J. Brown reported results at Birtle.
A local Lions Club project completed a distinctive sign above the entrance reading Rossburn Lions Manor. Lion Wally Mohr made the sign with help from Lion Rick Plaisier Lion Dan Shtykalo and TD staff member Chuck Brade.
Further donations have been received for the recreation commission fund to buy a tractor mounted scraper and flooding machine for Rossburn Arena. Contributors include Golden Trakalo 25.00 George Lawless 25.00 Rick Plaisier 25.00. Keep the support coming for this worthy project.
Deydey Dennis and Gwen announce the arrival of their daughter Carrie Lynn at Russell Hospital on October 2 1977. The baby weighs 6 pounds 2 ounces. Grandparents are Mike and Olga Deydey and Ken and Edna Cameron.
Donna Buternowsky attends the University of Winnipeg in the Faculty of Arts and has earned a $500 entrance scholarship. The Alumni Association will present the award at the fall convocation on October 15, 1977.
Doug Bergeson won multiple high honors at Oak Lake as the Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association finals concluded. He claimed high average trophy in Western Pleasure and both high average and high point trophies in Barrel Racing and Pole Bending.
Mrs. Ella Kuzenko holidayed at her mother Daisy Hlagie's home with grandsons Gerry and Jamie Burla in Rossburn for three weeks while Yvonne and Ron toured Europe visiting France Switzerland Italy Austria Germany Belgium and England. The Burlas won their trip via Air Canada in Thunder Bay. Several Winnipeg Kenora Thompson Stettler Edmonton Drumheller Vancouver and Niagara Falls residents visited local families. Beverley Werbowski and Garry Chimchak wed on October 8th.
Manitoba teachers prepare for the SAG conference to be held October 21 and 22 in Winnipeg Brandon Neepawa Virden and other locations. About 12 000 teachers are expected to attend with roughly 100 from Pelly Trail School Division.
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn Council met October 7 1977 to set polling places for the municipal election Ward One at the Municipal Office Ward Two at Wm Tansychuk residence Ward Three at Wm Gawryluk residence Ward Four at Obha Hall It also fixed Deputy Returning Officer pay 35.90 Poll Clerk 30.00 and Poll rental 23.00 A resident in need was granted temporary assistance for one week to October 17 1977 with steps to seek permanent work through the Agricultural Job Office and a claim to the Department of Indian Affairs for recovery of the assistance was authorized The meeting adjourned.
A local Jackpot Bingo night awards a $240 prize with multiple winners. Names repeated in ties include Nick Kurchaba and Mrs Margaret Mentuck among others, and players such as Florence Ledoux Judy Jandrew and Eve lyn Mohr are noted in several prize positions.
Wednesday evening the Lucky Buck Draw awarded Kelly Slon and Francine Slon each winning $35.50.
The Ressburn Cubs and Scouts stage a Battle Drive on Saturday October 15 from 11 am to 4 pm to support Scouting. A chicken or fowl supper is planned at the Ukrainian National Home Oakburn on Sunday October 16 from 5 to 7 pm.

The Roessburn Lions Club Jack Pot Bingo takes place Wednesday October 19 at Rossburn Town Hall basement 8:00 p.m. Sharp prizes include 150 dollars for 49 numbers and 150 dollars for 54 numbers.
The Rossburn Lions Club hosts a MASQUERADE BALL at Rossburn Town Halls on Saturday October 29 with music by the Moonlighters.
The Ladies of the Altar Society sponsor a Fall Tea Bake and Rum Sale at Ressburn Town Hall on Saturday October 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. All welcome. Proceeds support parish activities.
Vista residents hosted relatives from Winnipeg and Brandon for Thanksgiving weekend. Families including the Browns and Belinskis welcomed guests such as Mr and Mrs Carman Brown Mrs Anna Wishneyesky and Mrs John Zoochkan. The group traveled to Winnipeg for a five generation photo session with Mrs Baydock.
