Farewell Gathering For John Coughlan Before Saskatoon Trip
Friday evening a farewell was hosted at Rev. and Mrs. R. J. Barclay’s home for John Coughlan who departs for Bethel Bible Institute in Saskatoon to study ministry. Dolly Miller led entertainment with songs by Rev. W. B. Eaton John Coughlar Mrs. J. Sherritt and Mrs. A. Mitchell. An engraved plaque and purse were presented to John with best wishes for his future ministry.

Porcupine Draws Crowds After Farm Sighting
Ed Shust's farm saw a porcupine killed between 7 and 8 a.m. A crowd of over a hundred gathered in town to view the animal and collect quills. Ed's dog brought the first quills to the door, and a second farmer reported his dog also licked up quills.

Brown Bear Shot Near Oakburn
Peter K. Maduke nearly collided with a 235 pound brown bear on his Oakburn area farm last Tuesday evening. He frightened the animal with shouting as it approached from the bush, then notified neighbors Matt Zemianski and Matt Danyluk. Zemianski later shot the bear after a three hour pursuit.

Hospital Aid Welcomes New Matron and Plans Banquet
The regular Hospital Aid meeting, held Monday evening September 24, welcomed new hospital matron Miss Schraefe. They will cater the Teacher's Banquet Thursday at Town Hall and plan a fruit and vegetable shower in October. They approved spring-filled staff mattresses and set next meeting for October 29 at 8 p.m.
