Hospital Aid Holds November Meeting and Elections

The November Hospital Aid gathered 13 members and 1 visitor on November 27. Officers were elected with retiring officers Mrs. G Lawless and treasurer. new officers include Mrs. Sonia Melnyk president and Mrs. Jean Lawless vice president. Next meeting January 22, 1963 at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Harris Huston’s home. The matron may purchase Christmas gifts for patients paid by the aid.Mrs May Lawless and Mrs Emma Elvers reported on the Hospital Aid Convention in Winnipeg.

Smellie Nominated by PCs in Birtle Russell Contest

Russell lawyer R G Smellie was nominated by Arthur Simms and seconded by Mrs Peter Nychuk to contest the Birtle Russell Progressive Conservative seat on Nov 26 at the Birtle Legion Hall. about 200 supporters attended as Smellie urged active community leadership.

Liberal nominee Vic Fulton selected for Birtle Russell seat

Vic Fulton a 47 year old farmer from Birtle District was named the Liberal standard bearer for the Birtle Russell provincial riding after a unanimous vote by about 200 attendees at a Russell nominating conven tion. Fulton, a former RCAF officer, spoke of devoting full time to the campaign and his family includes Marion Tye Fulton and three sons.

Rossburn Is Chosen Site for 4-H Rally

A Shoal Lake 4-H Leaders conference met in Rossburn Town Hall on Tuesday November 27 with 62 leaders at 6 30 p.m. Bert Mitchell welcomed attendees in Chegwin's absence. C Dixon reported 14 clubs with 187 members and 30 leaders and noted 75 club calves tagged in the district.

Minish Nominated by New Democrats for Birtle-Russell Race

Arnold G. Minish aged 32 principal of Major Pratt Collegiate Russell is the unanimous choice of the New Democratic Convention at Angusville to contest the Birtle Russell constituency in the forthcoming provincial election. He was born in Swan River and educated there. He holds B Sc and B Ped from Brandon College and did post graduate work at Stamford University California. He taught at Benito Grandview and Binscarth, led the Pelly Trail Manitoba Teachers Society, and serves as Salary Co ordinator for Pelly Trail and Birdtail River Divisions. He sits in the Chamber of Commerce and the Masons and attends United Church. He is married with two children.
