Passing of Rossburn Councillor Sam Trakale

Regret notes the death of 36 year old Sam Trakale in Winnipeg Hospital on Sunday November 25. He was an active community worker and served as Councillor in Ward 1 of Rossburn Rural Municipality. Funeral services are set for Thursday at the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rossburn with burial in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.

Shower Honors Gladys Shaw at Church Annex

A miscellaneous shower was held in the Church Annex on Wednesday afternoon, November 21, honoring Miss Gladys Shaw. Entered guest was escorted to a decorated chair by Anse MecFeeters, Mrs. Eaton, and Mrs. D. Andrew. Contributions included an address, opening gifts, a musical interlude, and lunch.

Polio Clinic Planned at Rossbarn Town Hall

A polio clinic will be held December 13 1956 at Rossbarn Town Hall from 2 to 3 30 pm for Grade I students and five year olds needing second needles and third needles for those who had one in 1955. The fall series is needed for effectiveness.

Surprise Birthday Housewarming for Mrs Karmazenuk

A surprise party for Mrs. Nick Karmazenuk was held Tuesday at her home to honor her birthday. Mrs N Chopp gave the housewarming address and Mrs M E Antoff presented greetings and a small gift. About 35 ladies attended and lunch followed in the cozy gathering.

Village Council Meet at Rossburn on Street Sign Plans

The Village of Rossburn council met Friday November 23 in the Municipal Office with the mayor and councillors Werbowski and Aylwin present. Minutes and finances were approved. Delegations from the Rossburn Chamber of Commerce discussed street signs and uniform naming before signage erection. A plan to rename streets will be taken up with the Land Titles Office. One building permit was issued. Rink rental for 1956 57 winter season was confirmed. Correspondence from Lady Minto Nursing Home was sent to the village solicitor. Accounts were approved. Square Dancing set for Wednesday December 5 at 8 p.m. at the Ukrainian National Home. Local residents visited Brandon and Birtle. United Church W.A. bazaar netted about 73 dollars. Mission Band fish pond raised 4 dollars.

Agricultural Council reports mixed yields and plans winter talks

The fifth semi annual Agricultural Council meeting at Minnedosa Legion Hall discussed district conditions, officer elections, and a 4-H and farm meeting program. Wheat and barley yields were variable, oats strong, flax good, with rape acreage rising in Newdale. Winter talks will cover forage crops weed control and poultry breeds, with local groups organizing venues and ads.
