Mrs Earl Keating a former teacher of Silverton and mother of four was nominated at the CCF Nominating Convention in Strathclair to oppose former Premier Stuart Garson who has been nominated to fill the Marquette vacancy. The federal by election in Marquette is set for December 6.
A humorous classroom tour through a primary room where glue in hair and plasticine antics amuse readers. Miss Graham notes a passing car sparks the commotion as Miss Stechkewich’s pupils race from recess, hinting at the chaos of school life.
Isabel Swereda and Andrew Kozack wed in Oakburn Greek Catholic Church with Rev. Fernaichuk officiating. The bride wore a white sheer gown and wreath veil, attended by two second cousins, as family dinner followed at the bride’s home and a Rossburn Town Hall reception filled with relatives and friends. The couple will reside on a farm near Kelloe Rossburn.
At the Rossburn Agricultural Society annual meeting on November 17 in the Club Room, Bert Mitchell was re elected president. The group formed a land purchase committee, approved rent for a Boys Calf Club meeting, set next year’s fair for July 21, and authorized buying a $500 Dominion of Canada bond. Elections kept most officers, with several new directors and lady directors named, and plans discussed for Tractor School and Field Day.
The account recalls the founding of Bryan School named after Donald Sinclair, the Mile Corner School’s relocation east of Rossburn, and early trustees and teachers. It notes opposition to the new school, the birch log timber sourced from Gunn's Mill area, and early staff including Miss Esson and Miss Kelso as the village of Rossburn began to form.
The marriage of Rose Boychuk of Oakburn to Michael Tutkaluk of Oakburn occurred November 14 at Sandy Lake Greek Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory officiating. Attendants included Martha Boychuk and Martha Matziowsky and Annie Luhowy. Flower girl Nadia Groshok and Sozan Tutkaluk. A reception followed at the Ukrainian National Home in Oakburn on November 16. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. John W. Boychuk and Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. Kristalovich of Sandy Lake.
