Manitoba hunter safety program hits 100000 graduates
Manitoba Natural Resources Minister Leonard E Harapiak announced the milestone as Carman White of Birtle received the Hunter and Firearms Safety Training Course Certificate and a wildlife print at a ceremony held in the ae eo Building on Friday Novembe Carman is her gee 10 student. Instructors Ray and Kenneth Peacock were also honored with wildlife prints. The program began in 1964 and became mandatory in 1969 for first time licensed hunters and those under 19. Each year about 400 volunteer instructors train around 5,000 students.

The Whiteshell River in Whiteshell Provincial Park frames the 1980s Manitoba directory edition. Distribution of the 1 226 page directory started October 31 and runs through November with about 280 000 copies printed. Manitoba's youth unemployment rate for ages 15 to 24 fell to 8.5 percent in October 1986, the province's lowest since June 1980 and the lowest in Canada. Employment rose by 12,000 year over year, with 9,000 full time. Overall unemployment stood at 5.9 percent.
