Glen Elmo Ukrainian Orthodox Church marks 75th anniversary

The Glen Elmo Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church celebrates its 75th anniversary with a Pontificial Divine Liturgy led by Bishop Wasyly. A welcome ceremony featured Ukrainian and Canadian flags, a bouquet of roses, and a banquet at the Ukrainian National Home. Messages from officials were read and a cake was served, noting the church’s origins on a homestead and its enduring legacy in Brandon area.

New President Elected for Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association

Oliver R. Hodge of Bow Island Alberta was chosen as president of the Alberta Weekly Newspaper Association at the Edmonton convention. The Rossburn Manitoba native previously edited the Rossburn Review at 21 and has served on the A W N A board for five years. Membership is expected to surpass one hundred this year.

Manitoba Declares 4-H Week November 10 to 17

Agriculture Minister Jim Downey proclaims November 10 to 17 as 4-H Club Week in Manitoba. He lauds the 4-H movement for its 67 year impact on rural youth and notes Canada’s 4-H origins in Roland with 106 initial members. Now 60,000 youths and 16,000 volunteers in 5,600 clubs across the country reflect its growth. In Manitoba over 6,000 youths in 325 clubs follow the motto learn to do by doing.
