Rossburn Golf Club Spring Tournament Winners

Fifty one golfers competed in the Rossburn Golf Club spring tournament on May 23 in cool windy weather. George Brown of Birtle won the Championship Flight with a 3 round 107. Mike Russick of Winnipeg was runner up with 114.

4 H Sewing Club Achievement Night Held at Rossburn

The 4 H Achievement Night took place in the Rossburn School Auditorium on Tuesday May 18. Miss McAuley awarded 5 year certificates to leaders Mrs. Cleland McKnight Werbowski Maryniuk Sawchuk Johnston and to 5 year members Sandra Aylwin Lorraine Yaskiw. Ribbon and junior leader awards were given to multiple members and demonstrations shown by Margaret Caldwell Janneth Johnston Bev erley Verbowski and others.

Vista Stitchers Hold Achievement Day

The Vista Stitchers held Achievement Night May 19 in Vista Hall with 6 red blue and white ribbons awarded. Demonstrations included So Pretty With Plastics and Bottled Tricks with Bottled Tricks chosen for Rally. Gail Woycheshin to model at Sheila Rally and Caroline Wilson to attend camp.

Food Handling Course Offered by Local Health Unit

The Health Unit will run a Food Handling Course for interested persons. It will be held Monday May 31 at 9 00 a m with two evening sessions at 8 00 p m on May 31 and June 1 at the United Church Auditorium in Birtle. One hundred twenty one people have signed up and attendees will receive a special certificate.

Weather Report Highlights Weekend Snow and Cold

The week featured light snow from Tuesday evening to Thursday morning. Humidity and temperatures showed a high of 68 and a low of 25 for the past week with 0.79 inches of precipitation. A Mountain Blue bird was rescued from the storm, and residents boosted yard wildlife by bringing birds indoors. Extremes included a weekly high of 68 and a low of 25, with historical records noting higher and lower temperatures on specific dates.

Obituary for Nellie Bidochka 79 of Rossburn Village

Nellie Bidochka aged 79 long resident of Rossburn district died at her son's home. Born in Ukraine she emigrated to Canada in 1901 later marrying John Bidochka in 1914. Surviving are three sons and five daughters with 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Prayers were at Rossburn Parish Hall May 16 and funeral at Ukr Catholic Church May 17 with interment in Parish Cemetery.
