Terrace Bay appoints recreation director and facility manager

Loria, a University of Guelph recreation course graduate, is named Director of Recreation and Facility Manager for the Municipal District of Terrace Bay Ontario. He has held the post since April overseeing a multi facility complex including a library, artificial ice arena, bowling, curling, swimming pool, banquet hall, and multiple parks and courts. Buck, former Rossburn star, remains active in hockey and has played for the University of Guelph Varsity team this season.

Oakburn Resident Mary Hrytsak Celebrates 80th Birthday

Mrs. Mary Hrytsak of Oakburn observed her 80th birthday on Sunday May 30 with a buffet luncheon hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Peech. Attendees included relatives from Transcona Grand Rapids Winnipeg Regina Norquay Yorkton and Shoal.

Women attend food handling course at Birtle

Six women from the Rossburn U C W L attended a Food Handling Course at Birtle on Monday. They were Mrs. John Klym, Mrs. Nick Stupinsky, Mrs. Matt Glushka, Mrs. Metro Hruben iuk, Mrs. Harry Bidochka and Mrs. John Gurnick. They reported receiving many helpful pointers on serving and caring for food.

Shower In Honor Of Elaine Hutton

A shower held May 22 in the United Church annex honored Elaine Hutton bride elect of May 29. Lorna Veitch pinned corsages, and Miss Margaret Hay and Mrs. Marion Crookshanks also presented corsages to relatives. Jean Beil spoke, gifts were opened, and a lunch followed hosted by several local ladies.

Credit Union Directors Meet in Rossburn

The Rossburn Credit Union Society board met on May 25 at 8 30 p m. Twenty one new membership applications were approved and 51 loan applications totaling 51915.00 were approved. One loan was rejected. Assets rose by over 43000. The board near 250000 and may hire a part time helper as workload grows. Delinquent Committee acts on two accounts. Meeting adjourned to June 14.

Employment Representative Named Al Russell

G. L. Wilkinson, manager of the National Employment Office in Brandon, announced the appointment of William S. Gallinger as an employment representative located at Russell Manitoba. Gallinger's office sits above Robinson's Store and he will work through the Brandon National Employment Office focusing on agricultural employment needs while also assisting in locating workers for other fields of activity.

Postponed Spring Varieties 65 Rescheduled to June 9

The Spring Varieties 65 program, originally set for an earlier date, has been postponed and will now take place on Wednesday June 9 at 8:30 p.m. in Rossburn Town Hall. The change affects attendees and participants awaiting the event.

Rossburn sent a strong team to the Pelly Trail Track and Field meet on June 1. Johnnie Ryshytyle set three marks in broad jump 100 yard dash and triple jump while teammates earned multiple top placings across events including discus shot put hurdles and running events.

Ryshytyle wins three track records at Russell meet

Rossburn record breaker Johnnie Ryshytyle set the pace for next year by smashing three marks on June 1 at Russell. He clocked 10.3 seconds in the 100 yard dash surpassing the 10.9 record, jumped 18 feet 6.5 inches in the broad jump beating 17 feet 5 inches, and surpassed the 32 feet 3.5 inches triple jump mark with a 37 feet 6.42 inches leap.

Track Meet Postponed to June 4 If Weather Permits

The Junior High announces the May 31 track event is moved to June 4 depending on weather. The top two from each event advance to Russell if possible. A May 28 party was well attended with prizes and thanks to helpers.

Rossburn Women's Institute Meeting Highlights

The Rossburn Women’s Institute met in the annex on Tuesday June 1 at 3 00 pm with O Canada and the Creed. Mrs McIntosh chaired and Mrs Beryl Williamson served as acting secretary in Mrs Snider’s absence. Meetings will move to evenings from July 6 at 8 00 pm. A Grandmother’s Tea is planned for Tuesday June 15 at 3 00 pm. The jackpot donated by Mrs Jean Cleland was won by Mrs A Moan. The session closed with the Mizpah Benediction and a motivational verse about perseverance.

Matiowsky graduates in Ontario recreation diploma

Mrs. Steve Matiowsky and Mrs. Margaret Yarchuk attended Orest Buck Matiowsky's graduation at Guelph where he earned a Recreation Diploma and now works as an instructor in Terrace Bay Ontario. Also visiting were Mr. and Mrs. Murray Coates and sons of Reston Manitoba at the Spidells, Mrs. Hubert in Winnipeg, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Peel of Reston with Mr. and Mrs. Chris Novalkowski.
