Town declines hog plant offer citing infrastructure limits
The Town of Stonewall rejected Maple Leaf Meats bid for a 50,000 hog per week slaughtering plant, citing sewer and water needs. The project would need 200 acres and would discharge almost one million cubic meters of water annually into the municipal lagoon. Mayor Dave Lethbridge said the plan exceeded local capacity.

In Virden, Dr. Roy Brown’s farewell marks the start for Dr. David Cochrane who begins practice May 1 with his wife Jennifer, a nurse at Sioux Valley Reserve. Cochrane, a 1992 Waterloo grad, has worked with Dr. Perkins in Neepawa and Minnedosa and served on the Manitoba Optometrists board. Five Western Christian College students from Dauphin will join Scott Roberts on a six week Ukraine English teaching trip starting May 11 and ending June 28, focusing on practical conversation and Bible-based instruction.
