Graduates of UBC Marry in Knox Chapel Ceremony
Jack Charles Easton and Sharon Sue Sinclair were married Saturday at 3 p.m. in Knox United Chapel Vancouver. The bride, daughter of George and Mrs Sinclair, earned a 1958 UBC BA. the groom, Charles Easton, completed a mechanical engineering degree this month. Bride’s attendant Mrs Barry Clare and best man Barney Schoolen joined the event before the couple departed for Detroit Michigan.

Funeral Rites For Michael Sokolan Held In Port Arthur
The 35 year old Michael Sokolan of Terrace Bay drowned Saturday in a log jam at the Aquasabon River near Terrace Bay. His funeral was held Thursday at St Andrew's Roman Catholic Church after a 10 a m mass. He was born in Rossburn Manitoba and moved to Port Arthur then Terrace Bay where he worked for Kimberley Clark Paper Co. Surviving are his father Samuel Sokolan and nine siblings including Bert Mervin Alex Dan Gurniak Miss and Mrs Steinhauser. Burial was in St Andrew's Cemetery. Prayers were recited Wednesday at the chapel.

Village council sets mill rate for Rossburn
Rossburn council met May 19 with Mayor Earl Moffat presiding. They adopted minutes and financials, noted $5 in traffic fines and four disorderly conduct convictions, planned a pole move for a culvert, approved two building permits, sold school floor to United Church W.A. for $145, and re employed a hall caretaker. A provincial grant of $1767 will help street paving as the 1959 budget discussion set the village mill rate at 59 mills, up from 55, with bills approved and next meeting June 16.

Increased Rural Assessment Lowers 1959 Mill Rate
The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held a May meeting with reeve Ed Shust presiding. Minutes from April were approved and a financial report passed. An arbitrator was named for school district consolidations with Oakburn, two road operators were hired, and Piasta’s bridge bid of 340 dollars was accepted. The 1959 mill rate was set at 20 uncontrollable and 28.5 controllable mills, marking a overall drop from last year’s 50.1 mills due to higher assessments.

Rossburn dropped a 9 0 home game to Foxwarren Friday with Jackie Kostiak tossing well for the visitors. The team bounced back Sunday to beat Shoal Lake 8 6 as Rubeniuk earned the win and Hamilton finished the final inning. Next home game is Wednesday May 27 with Shoal Lake visiting.

Rossburn Credit Union Board Meeting Held May 11
The Rossburn Credit Union Society held its May board meeting at the Andrew residence on May 11. A chapter meeting is planned for May 25 in Strathclair, sponsored by Cana Mutual Insurance Society. Six new member applications were approved, with assets over 50000. The Credit Committee approved 24 loan applications and 3 extensions. The Supervisory Committee reported books in order and a pass book audit was completed in the year. Meeting adjourned to reconvene June 8.
