Trustees at Rossburn hear policy on salary negotiations for elementary teachers. Resolution adopts Manitoba grant schedule 74-58 and bans salary reductions under existing contracts. Amendments allow higher local pay in outlying areas with discretionary extra salary. Further talks set for June 10 convention in Rossburn.

A May frost produced a low of 27 in Rossburn on Tuesday night May 26. Historical readings show identical 27s on June 12 1958 and earlier. May rainfall totals reach 2.50 inches, the wettest May since 1955, with 3.81 inches of moisture since April 1. Highs this past week reached 83 and the low 27 on Wednesday.

Queen's Day Senior Ball Tournament at Rossburn

Rossburn will host its eighth annual Queen's Day Senior Baseball Tournament on Saturday June 6 with prize money of 100 75 and 50 dollars. Entries must be phoned to No 1 or 75 Rossburn before 8 pm Friday June 5 and the draw will be made then. The event aims to boost community interest and also invites entries for a Pony League tournament.

Organizational Meet For Chest X-Ray

A meeting at the Rossburn Municipal Office gathered the rural council nearby Rossburn W I and Vista W I along with J. J. Zayshley from the Sanatorium Board of Manitoba to form a committee. The group will canvass residents for a Free Mass Tuberculin Skin Testing and Chest X Ray survey planned for early July with dates to be announced. A follow up meeting is set for Wednesday June 3 at 8 p m in the Rossburn Town Hall with Mr Zayshley presiding.

Grandmother's Tea and Parish Bingo Invite Community

The W I Annual Grandmother's Tea will be held in the Church Annex on June 2 at 3 pm with all grandmothers invited. The Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood sponsors Bingo at Rossburn Parish Hall on Tuesday June 9 at 8:30 pm with 20 games at 75 cents, free coffee and doughnuts.

Change of Ownership at Local Funeral Home

The funeral home is now under the management of Ron R. Kowalchuk of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan who will continue to provide the same services. Kowalchuk was born in Portage la Prairie and trained as an embalmer in Moose Jaw. He and his wife, a nurse, plan to settle in Shoal Lake after assisting during the transition.

Mrs. Peter Antonation of Oakburn died May 20 at Shoal Lake Hospital after a lingering illness at age 51 years 6 months. Born Oakburn November 8 1907 she leaves husband Peter two sons Steve Winnipeg and Ernie Brandon her father Steve Nychek Oakburn one brother and four sisters and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 23 at the Oakburn Greek Catholic church Rev P Romanyshyn officiating. Interment Greek Orthodox cemetery Oakburn Rae's Funeral Home Shoal Lake oversaw the burial.

Funeral Rites For Pioneer Resident Spilczuk

The death of Mrs Tetiana Spilczuk occurred May 11 at the Zimerman residence after a four year illness. Born in Austria in 1867 she came to Canada in 1905 settling in Mears district to farm until 1957 then moved to Rossburn to live with daughter Dora Zimmerman. Survived by four daughters Dora Zimmerman Kay Cherwonak Pearl Pawluk Annie Charney and two sons John and Anton. A Ukr. Women's Association bingo on May 20 netted $42.38 for donations and prizes. Rossburn Seniors Drop Two Tight Games This Week

The Rossburn Senior baseball Club lost two close games. Eddie Carson took the loss at Strathclair in a 5-2 defeat. Sunday in Binsearth Rossburn blew a lead and fell 8-2 with Henry Rubeniuk the losing pitcher. A league game vs Shoal Lake was halted at 4-3 due to darkness and not recorded for innings.

Mandziuk Named Atlantic Congress Delegate

Nicholas J. Mandziuk m p for Marquette Constituency will join 650 delegates from 15 NATO nations at the Atlantic Congress in London June 5 to 9. Canada's 45 delegates include 15 lawmakers and 30 distinguished non parliamentarians from industry commerce banking labor media universities professions and agriculture. The congress seeks closer North American European NATO cooperation across political economic cultural and military areas and reviews alliance records and future relations with the free world and the Communist bloc. Queen Elizabeth opens the event at Westminster Hall on June 5 with telecast across Europe by Eurovision.

50th Anniversary Fair Items Of Interest

The Publicity Committee gathers historical notes for the 50th Anniversary Fair. The society began with an inaugural meeting on May 10 1910 in Johnston's Hall chaired by William Young.
