Second Annual Turkey Trail Camporee Hosted by Rossburn Rover Crew
The Rossburn Rover Crew hosts the Second Annual Turkey Trail Camporee May 21 to 24 at a site 3 miles south and 3 miles west of Rossburn on the Birdtail River. Scouts from Neepawa Strathclair Kenton Virden Shoal Lake Birtle Bredenbury Erickson Minnedosa and Rossburn are expected to attend with other groups possible. The camp features a full program including flag ceremonies, meals, games, obstacle courses, nature hunts, and a campfire schedule, with Camp Chief W E Stefanuk coordinating activities and Canadian Forces Base Shilo loaning a marquee. Families and visitors are invited Sunday for open house.

Farm Home Destroyed By Fire Near Rossburn
A farm home four miles north and one mile west of Rossburn was destroyed by a blaze Sunday morning May 16. The Rossburn Fire Brigade arrived too late to save the house but prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures. The residence was a complete loss.

Parkland Harvest Festival Dates Set by Committee
The Parkland Harvest Festival Committee met on May 4 and set August 14 and 15 as this year’s festival dates. A Nominating Committee led by L. C. Johnston, Robert Stupinsky, and Ken Caldwell was appointed to assemble a slate of officers for a future public meeting. The proposed executive includes a chairman, vice chairman, secretary treasurer, five committee chairmen, and three members at large.

65th Wedding Anniversary Observed At Glushka Home
On May 8th Mr. and Mrs. Mike Glushka celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with an Open House at their home. A High Mass at the Ukrainian Catholic Church led by Rev. Lehky preceded the gathering, with 108 guests touring the residence. A stream of telegrams arrived from dignitaries including Sidney Spivak Robert Stanfield Prime Minister Trudeau the Queen and others. The evening closed with a visit from M L A Harry Graham and three associates.

Village Council Holds Regular Meeting Rossburn May 18 1971
The Village of Rossburn council met in the Council Chambers on May 18 with Mayor Louis Kurehaba and councillors Mike Baubie William McKietiuk and Harry Drosdoski present. Minutes of prior meetings were read and approved. The financial report for the month ending April 30 1971 was adopted. Building permits for Harold Slow Mike Sowchyshyn and Alex Pawluk were approved. The Utility man’s report was adopted and bills totaling 8151.23 were ordered paid. The council adjourned to meet on June 15 1971 at 7 pm.

Fatal Accident Claims Local Victim May 15
A two vehicle head-on collision about 3 miles east of Rossburn on Saturday afternoon May 15 claimed the life of Mrs. Mary Gapka, 64, of Rossburn. The car driver Mr. Mike Gapka, 1962 Falcon, had serious injuries and was hospitalized. Occupants of the 40 ton truck, a 1961 Ford pickup, also were hospitalized: driver Mrs. Kathleen Hlagie and passengers John Shastko and Mrs. Julia Shastko. Rossburn RCMP attended. Dr. Lange of Russell was summoned under The Fatal Inquiries Act.

Police Week was observed May 9 to 15 in Rossburn with RCMP planning events under the theme Partners in the Community. A bicycle rodeo, essay and poster contests awarded trophies and pins across grades, with a film night at Rossburn Collegiate drawing about 200 attendees.
