Rossburn Municipality Sets May Meeting Actions

The Rossburn Rural Municipality Council met in the council chambers with Reeve M J Sotas and four councillors present. They adopted the April financial report, discussed welfare assistance for Miss Ducharme, moved road pole relocation for land exchange with Mr. Mike Saley, declined all low house trailer offers, and set By-Laws 847 and 848 for school district dissolution and 1960 tax rates respectively. The next meeting is scheduled for June 14 1960 at 1 PM.

Funeral Rites for Mrs Zenchyshyn Held in Vista

Nellie Zenchyshyn died suddenly May 9 at 61. She was born in Austria and came to Canada as an infant, later living in Marco Rossburn and finally Vista where she resided until death. Funeral services were at the Ukr Greek Catholic Church with burial at Olha Cemetery. Pallbearers included sons-in-law and grandsons. Survived by husband Fred, ten children, 37 grandchildren and one great grandchild, plus three brothers and four sisters.

Old Newspapers Found in Sutcliffe Building Demolition

W Gawryliuk and Roman Hutzel recovered fragments from old papers during wrecking of the Sutcliffe Building on Main Street in Birtle. One issue dated May 12 1884 and another from Manitoba Free Press November 26 1903 note that deer hunting open season drew many hunters northward.

4-H Sewing Club Achievement Night at Vista

The Vista 4H Sewing Club The Stichers held achievement night on May 6 featuring dancing singing demonstrations and modelling. Four demonstrations split between Junior and Senior classes with projects including aprons skirts baby doll pajamas and a silver collection lunch was served and Patsy Mackedenski and Shirley Belinski were selected for upcoming 4H events.

Shower In Honor Of Jean Tomchuk

A miscellaneous shower was held in the Ukr. Greek Catholic Parish Hall Rossburn in honor of bride elect Jean Tomchuk for a June wedding. Lorraine Yaskiw pinned a corsage and led guests in song. About 107 ladies signed the guest book. A dainty lunch was served.

Rossburn W. A Holds May Meeting

The W A held their May gathering in the annex with 22 members present. Roll call featured White Elephant gifts exchange. They donated 10 dollars each to Camp Wasaga for a new recreation hall and the PCTC at Fort Qu Appelle. Mrs Bertha Johnston reported on the Birtle Presbytery Conference at Levinia. Ceiling repairs were approved and two carpenters to be contacted about leaks.
