Work on CKOSTV Baldy Mountain station nears completion with final testing to start this week. Technical Director George Skinner says periodic on air tests will be carried out using the station test pattern on Channel 8. Official opening date remains undecided but expected around the end of May.
Miss Shirley Luhowy Ken Malanchuk and Romeo Hersak returned to Teachers College Winnipeg after two weeks practice teaching at Oakburn School. Oakburn UCY Club held a Mother's Day Tea May 8 in the Parish Hall with home baking aprons sale and door prizes.
Sympathy extended to the Halliday Cochran Cochrane and Smith families. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Frank Seaton on the birth of twin girls. The Birdtail W L met May 5 at Mrs Charles Browns. Mary Salev showed pictures of the north. Wayne Doubleday drew the jackpot ticket won by Clair Palmer. The W L presented Mrs Morris, who is leaving the community, with a gift.
The Vista W A held its regular meeting at Mrs. Harvey Hamiltons home on Wednesday May 4 with four members and three visitors present. Mrs H Armstrong spoke on Mother's Day origins and carnations were made while a bazaar article was planned. Donations from Chesneys Sale raised net proceeds of $27 and the group adjourned to June 1 at Mrs M D Hamiltons.
Mr and Mrs John Hellick and Leonard visited with Mr and Mrs Mack Hamilton and boys on Sunday. Several families traveled to Winnipeg with updates on moves and visits. The community was shocked by the sudden passing of Mrs Fred Zenchyshyn Monday night.
The Rossburn Village Council will meet on Monday evening May 16 at 8:00 p.m. instead of the regular date of Tuesday May 17. The change adjusts the council’s schedule for the upcoming session.
An Immunization Clinic will be held at Rossburn Town Hall on Thursday morning May 19 from 10 to 12 for Rossburn Village and Municipality children due for their 4th poliomyelitis dose. Eligible children should have had their 3rd dose by June 1958. ages 3 to 9 advised, others missing earlier clinics welcome. Contact Dr J L Layng if unsure.
The Vista W.1 held an Annual Grandmothers Tea on Thursday in the hall inviting district grandmothers from Birdtail and Rossburn Institutes. The program opened with O Canada and the Creed, followed by three W. I. songs and a Mother's Day poem by Mrs. Mary Stitt. Mr Sutherland of Brandon spoke on Welfare work, with a contest for grandmothers and remembrances given to five hosts before a lunch served by N Hrysak J Halliday and D Armstrong.
Seeding is well advanced in this Manitoba area thanks to a mild May. The 1960 season may be recorded as unusually early for local farm operations, aided by lighter snowfall than the south and east and earlier spring run-off.

Word arrives of the death of Mrs. John Allen Smith at Lacombe at age 93. She was a former Ranchvale resident and was predeceased by her husband on March 28.
Manitoba revised two of four crop insurance test areas on May 5 as the first pilot program in Canada launches. In all 2 616 farmers bought insurance. 93 will have money returned due to area reductions. Coverage depends on 25 percent signups before operation in a test area.
The Rossburn W M S held its May meeting on the 10th in the annex with President Mrs Alexander in the chair. Mrs B Williamson and other members assisted. A three act Play Half World was read by six ladies. Minutes and roll call were read. A box of used clothing to Korea was decided for later. Meeting closed with benediction.
The death of Mrs Allan Halliday of Elm Creek Manitoba occurred April 28 at her home. Vera Sinclair born May 29 1900 Rossburn was married to James Allan Halliday in 1923 and taught school before farming near Elm Creek. Survived by husband two children including James of Winnipeg and Helen McKay four grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral held April 30 at Elm Creek United Church with interment in Elm Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers and flower bearers were named.
The Young Women's Club event now set for May 20 at 8 30 p m in United Church. Community notes include section changes after CNR closure, residents Mr Dagg and family moving in July, and local obituaries for Hughena Chittick with service details and condolences. Henry Chittick noted as Angusville-born cousin of local families.
