Ivan Franko centre opens in Rossburn area cultural hub
The Ukrainian People's Home of Ivan Franko Cultural Centre held its official opening on Saturday April 26 drawing 180 attendees. Deputy Mayor Morley Kostecky officiated the ribbon cutting as Elmer Lesiuk presented the centre's history from 1923. A program of Ukrainian songs dances and instruments followed with MC Mike Antonin.

A fire at about 8:00 a.m. Tuesday May 13 destroyed a barber shop in Angusville. The blaze started likely as a chimney fire, spreading from the attic to engulf the building with residential quarters at the rear. Angusville firefighters, aided by Rossburn, Russell, and Binscorth units, battled the flames.

Hire A Student Job Centre Opens in Russell
The Hire A Student office in Russell began operation on May 5 serving Russell and nearby communities including Inglis Binscorth Angusville Rossburn Birtle St Lazare and Foxwarren. Lori Miller the office manager previously studied at the University of Manitoba and the Russell Chamber of Commerce sponsors the local office.

Registration Opens for Hire A Student Program at Rossburn
Registration at Rossburn Collegiate on May 12 drew 30 students for the Hire A Student program. Youth aged 16 to 24 from post secondary or not in school are invited to visit the H A S office at Pelly and Westbourne or call 773 3081 in Russell. Employers have begun contacting organizers and visits to area firms will occur May 20 to 23. Students bring experience in babysitting painting gardening housekeeping and lawn mowing. Employers with Manitoba Private Sector Youth Employment Program applications will be contacted upon acceptance. Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 to 12:30.
