Rossburn Golf Club elects officers and committees

The Rossburn Golf Club held its annual meeting at Rossburn Arena with 18 members present on April 30. Officers elected: President Bob Pritchard Vice-President Bill Kushniryk Sec-Treas Nick Kalyniuk. Committees named and motions approved including a single membership fee structure and plans for tournaments and facilities.

Knox United Church Mortgage Burning Ceremony Held

The Anniversary Service at Knox United Church Rossburn Sunday May 6 featured Rev Jeanne Stright Rev Ken Stright with choir music under Walter Dueck. A Mortgage Burning Ceremony marked the 1975 construction era with ministers Penny Cleland Hamilton and Dueck families participating and a history presentation by Mrs. Alice Lindsay.

Police Week Open House At Rossburn RCMP Office

Rossburn RCMP announces an Open House on Thursday May 17 from 9:00 to 5:00 during Police Week 1979. The public is invited to view office facilities and displays on hand.

Settlers Arrive in Rossburn A Century Ago in May 1879

A long time resident recalls the first settler party reaching Rossburn in May 1879. Families listed include Wm Peden, R.R. Ross, John Broadfoot, Wm Armstrong, J.J. Stitt, James Stitt, Sam Warnock, Hugh Warnock, Wm McKee, Tom McKee, and Harry Sleigh. Most settlers arrived in 1880.

Hospital Auxiliary plans Tag Day event

Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary met at Mrs. Doris Caldwell's home with 20 members present for the April meeting. They reported the cost of a TV for the Children's Ward, added items to the hospital showcase, and noted plans to attend the Regional meeting at Hamiota on April 25. A hospital Easter Tea was held for patients. Vi McKietiuk, board member, provided an update.

Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association Board Meeting

The Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association held a board meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nychek on May 3. They discussed plans for the Home Coming and 80th Anniversary of the first Ukrainian and Polish settlers and noted Winnipeg architects will visit next week to advise on restoring the Leech Ukrainian Catholic Church.

The Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association announces a two day Homecoming on July 14 15 honoring Ukrainian and Polish settlers at Leech and surrounding area. The event marks 80 years of community settlement with activities and commemorations.

Rossburn Hornets Wind Up Season With Banquet and Awards

The Rossburn Hornets held their annual hockey wind-up at the town hall on May 5. Orest Smycnnik led a banquet program with player introductions and thanks to the executive and fans. Awards included Most Gentlemenly Player Jim Procyk and Most Valuable Player Glen McLeod, with Mayor Rick Plaiser presenting prizes. A turkey auction raised 75 dollars before dancing and festivities. Earlier, a Rossburn area fire destroyed a farm home near Rezac, with no injuries reported and donations requested at the United Church.
