UCWL Holds Convention At Oakburn
A Ukrainian Catholic Women's League convention was held in the Oakburn Parish Hall on Sunday March 18 with 75 ladies participating. Delegates came from Shoal Lake Selsgirth and Birtle. Mrs Anne Dud ar and Mrs Vera Buchinska led and spoke on the league’s national recognition. Rev Father Romanyshyn led prayers. meeting ended with lunch by Oakburn and Shoal Lake members.

Gerald Brown Trophy Winner at Virden Music Festival
Gerald Brown won the Music Section of the Mr. and Mrs. A. Hill Memorial Trophy for the second year in a row at the Virden Music and Arts Festival held March 19 to 23. The Pipestone Chamber of Commerce Shield went to the adjudged most promising entrant. The Trophy Concert on March 24 saw Brown repeat his performances in Oratorio Folk Song and Tenor classes.

Cemetery Committee Elects Officers For 1962
The Rossburn Public Cemetery Committee elected officers for 1962 with Len Selby as chairman J G Stitt as secretary R N Hutton as treasurer and district members Harvey Hamilton John Plant Earle Taylor and Wm Mitchell. The group stressed donations and plot sales fund operations noting no municipal support and that interments are open to all religions or colors for a small plot fee and caretaker donation. Steve Nowicky 80 of Oakburn Dies in Shoal Lake Hospital
Steve Nowicky of Oakburn died March 21 at Shoal Lake Hospital aged 80. Born 1882 in Western Ukraine he arrived in Canada in 1907 and married Tennie Starenky in 1910. Funeral conducted by Rev. Wm. Melnychuk with interment at the local Ukrainian church cemetery.
