Mrs. J J Stitt Celebrates 95th Birthday Gathering

Mrs J J Stitt marked her 95th birthday with a family gathering on March 17 as well wishers visited with tea. Relatives from Winnipeg and Foxwarren attended, with thanks extended to those who sent cards gifts and flowers and to the bearer of a heartfelt Irish verse performance.

Funeral Rites For Frank Bewza Victim Of Logging Accident

Frank Bewza of Ashcroft British Columbia was killed March 8 in a logging accident at 26. Born in the Vista district in 1935 he was son of Paul and Mary Bewza. He lived in the district until 1959 when he married Evelyn Malynyk of Kamsack Saskatchewan and moved to Ashcroft. Prayers were held March 14 at Oakburn Parish Hall and the funeral was conducted at Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with Rev. P Romanyshyn officiating and interment at the local cemetery. Pallbearers included Nick Mychasin Pat Sharkey Mike Twerdochlib Mike Macahon Stan Bewza Mike Benza Mike Kaskiw. He leaves his wife Evelyn his father and mother his brother Mike sister Jean Sharkey and Helen. Raginski Funeral Home Oakburn arranged arrangements.

Sudden Passing of Shelly Kostecky

Shelly Kostecky died suddenly at Winnipeg Children's Hospital on March 17 at 11 months. Born in Winnipeg to Iris and Morley Kostecky of 566 Simcoe Street, funeral prayers were held March 19 at Roman Catholic Church in Rosburn at 2:00 p.m. Burial followed with Rev. Mendyka presiding. left to mourn are her parents and one brother.

Home Destroyed By Fire March 13 at Didych Farm

Walter Didych loses home and contents to fire believed to start in the chimney while he was away. The recently purchased farm had no insurance, with furniture valued around $1,000 and other personal possessions lost.

Rivers win 11 6 as NC hockey final opens at Rivers

Rivers defeated Rossburn 11-6 in the North Central Hockey League final opener at Rivers. Hamilton led Rossburn with two goals, while Rivers surged to an 8-4 lead by the end of the second period and added three more in the final frame. Second game set for Saturday at Rossburn Arena.

Mrs Olive O Donnell of Portage la Prairie spent the weekend with Mr M D Hamilton. Brandon visitors Mr and Mrs S Taylor and family joined Mr and Mrs W J Hamilton on Sunday. Steve Belinski of Winnipeg spent the weekend with his mother, accompanied by Shirley Belinski. Mr and Mrs Frank Bily and family of Millwood visited the Hamiltons. W Barlow and A Zentner rinks won prizes at the Selgirth Bonspiel. Jack Miller returned from Winnipeg after visiting his daughter Donna in hospital who is improving. Women's Institute guest Mr P Rudiak spoke on life in Quebec and praise for March of Dimes efforts. Lunch by Edith Young and Florence MacPhail.

Final 4 H Public Speaking Contest For This Area

The Vista Hall hosted the area finals on a Friday night March 16 under Vista 4 H Clubs auspices. Contestants from Shoal Lake Birtle and Strathclair spoke on topics ranging from Freedom From Want to Juvenile Delinquency to Home Safe Home. Jean Glenn won first, Betty McLean second, and Linda Nickel third. awards were presented by Norma Morrison and Kiwanis pennants by W T Uhryniuk. The three winners advance to Hamiota for another elimination contest.

Mrs Martha Brown obituary in Rossburn Manitoba

Mrs Martha Brown aged 82 died at Rossburn Hospital on March 13. Born in Holland Centre Ontario in 1880 she moved to Rossburn area in 1898 and married James Brown in 1901 who died in 1954. Survived by five sons Sam Walter Carman Alex Wilton and three daughters Florence Mary Roween. plus two brothers Albert and Arthur. 25 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Funeral March 16 at Vista United Church conducted by Mr T Ferguson with solo by Joyce Maxwell and organist Les Hamilton. Interment at Rossburn Cemetery. Rae's Funeral Home handled arrangements.
