The Council of the Village of Rossburn has given tentative approval to paving plans for Rossburn streets. Final plans will be completed soon with a formal notice of intent to be published. The annual cost to ratepayers should approximate current street maintenance charges, marking another village improvement during the Diamond Anniversary year.
Thirteen ladies from the Rossburn area are the first graduates of the Bishop Sewing Course in the Pelly Trail Division. About 50 began the course nearly three years ago with a March 6 graduation at the skating rink. The event included modelled outfits, a lunch, and certificates of achievement presented by Mike Antonin for the School Board.
The paper explains several weeks of carried over content including auction sale items due to an unprecedented printing backlog. Editors express hope to catch up in an early issue and apologize for the delay.
The adult recreation program starts Sunday March 25 at 2 PM in the RCL gym with full facilities available. A Badminton Workshop is planned for April 3 at 10 AM to noon in Rossburn Elementary School Gym and 1 PM to 3 PM in the RC I gym for interested indoor players. A youth center invitation drew a poor response and teen activities begin at the RCS gym on April 2.
Rossburn Elementary School sent 11 projects to the Western Manitoba Science Fair held March 9 and 10. The fair drew 539 entries from 41 centres with strong competition. A team project Grain and Its Uses by Mark Stefanuk Perry Borowski and Gerald Bidochka won top prize in the 4-6 Biological Section and received a plaque bearing Rossburn Elementary’s name dating from 1970.
The Rossburn Lions canceled the regular Carnival due to ice and weather conditions. Advance ticket refunds are available from Rick Plaister. The Carnival Queen will be crowned at a future Lions Club event with further notices about the Demolition Derby and Queen Contest.
The Rural Municipality of Silver Creek filled council business including weed control with Elmer Clearwater, plans for lagoon spraying, and nuisance grounds. A March 27 meeting at Angusville Hall will discuss weed spraying and farmer interests. ABy law to purchase property from Mrs Magnowski passed and tax sale assignment approved. Accounts totaling 3367.59 approved. Next meeting set for April 10 at 1 00 PM.
A one hour color feature "His Land" recounts Israel from ancient to modern times. Cliff Barrows and Cliff Richard star as audiences travel Galilee to Jerusalem. Joint Lent event by Rossburn churches 75 cents admission. Tickets at local Rossburn Credit Union and Toronto-Dominion Bank.
The Rossburn resident Peter Matyshyn leads the Parkland Tourist and Convention Association which held its first annual meeting at the Dauphin Allied Arts Centre on March 19 1973. A constitution by laws and a membership fee schedule were adopted, an executive elected, and provincial grant eligibility noted for regional tourism promotion.
Rossburn and District Recreation Commission reports strong progress of Local Incentive Program projects. Seventy players participated in minor hockey activities and 270 seniors used the Drop-In Centre in February. Rossburn appoints Ross Taylor as Recreation Co-ordinator to oversee indoor sports and baseball for all ages.
The Rossburn Senior Citizens held a March afternoon event at the Rossburn Town Hall with 70 attendees. They thanked Bob and Mrs Pritchard for Holy Land slides, and announced a March 29 Oakburn visit. Winners at the Drop-In Centre included in crib and checkers events, and a crafts program plus a card party are planned.
