Pelly Trail School Board Meets on Pool Plan and Budget

The Pelly Trail School Division held meetings on February 19 and March 5 in Russell. A delegation urged approval to study and approach the Education Department about building a swimming pool adjacent to Major Pratt School. The board formed a committee, reviewed the Russell Rifle Range repairs, and discussed 1973 budget and staffing plans for 1973 74. The March 5 session welcomed John Mazur as Ward Five trustee and noted Rossburn High School’s provincial debating championship. Transportation for the Brandon science fair was approved and concerns over the Community Schools Program ending March 31 were raised with a proposal to extend funding. The next meeting is March 19 1973.

Recreation News at Youth Centre Opens Teen Programs

Recreation Co-ordinator invites local teens to Friday 8 p.m. gatherings on March 16 to spark interest and ideas. Centre plans include supervised gymnastics for elementary students starting April 5 and an Adult Recreation Night in early April at the R C L facilities.

Senior Citizens Social Slated at Rossburn Town Hall

Senior Citizens News invites all seniors to an afternoon social on Sunday March 18 at 2 PM in the Rossburn Town Hall basement. Bob and Mrs Pritchard will present Holy Land slides. Bingo lunch cards prizes and a door prize will cap activities.

The regular monthly meeting of the Rural Municipality of Rossburn postponed from Tuesday March 13 to Wednesday March 21 1973 at 1 00 p m in respectful memory of the late Councillor Mervin Trakalo.

Paul N. Duval chairman of the Industrial Development Board of Greater Winnipeg will speak at Parkland Regional Development Corporation’s fifth annual meeting in Dauphin Allied Arts Centre starting 1 30 p m on March 26. Duval is a Winnipeg hotelier and businessman active in urban and rural economic development and has been an Associate Member of Parkland through the St. Regis Hotel.

Manitoba Curling Sweepstakes Pays Winners and Lions Club

Mr Jim Andrew won $200 in the Manitoba Curling Sweepstakes drawing. Les Andrew received $50 as the ticket seller, and the Rossburn Lions Club earned $50 for community projects. Buy locally through the Lions Club to support community betterment with every ticket.

Bylaw Changes Promised for Regional Council Structure

The meeting will consider bylaw changes to create a regional council with each member municipality represented. The council would meet four times yearly. Reports from 1972 and a new slate of officers will also be chosen.

Co op Insurance Annual Meeting Highlights Hail Losses

The Co op Insurance meeting at Red Oak Inn Brandon reported main hail losses from Russell Decker and Hamiota Manitoba with 220 hail and 4 fire claims paid last year. A 25 percent dividend was declared on 72 premiums to be mailed in May. A new option allows losses in one year to be withheld for payment the next year for income purposes with notice to the company. Acreage limits for hail coverage were increased for the coming season.

Cheddar Cheese Course Graduation Honors Manitoba Students

Twelve Manitobans completed a three week cheddar cheese manufacturing program at the University of Manitoba. Graduates received certificates in a March 2 ceremony at the Dairy Plant with instructors from the university and provincial dairy authorities.
