Rural Manitoba meeting charts path for growth

Manitoba community newspaper leaders and elected officials met in Neepawa on March 16 to discuss a new agenda for rural Manitoba. Attendees from councils, schools, MLAs and MPs heard talks on decentralizing services, regionally distributing agriculture offices, and fostering cottage industries. Premier Gary Filmon urged rural focus while a Westare study and attendee questionnaire were shared for later analysis. A task force will relay recommendations to government for action.
