Manitoba athletes to compete in Reno Lake Tahoe Special Olympics

Mitch heading for Reno Lake Tahoe with eight Manitobans including Lecia Mitch of Rossburn and Neepawa athlete, speed skating hopeful. Bruce McMillan of Kelwood coaches alpine skiing. Team Canada aims for wins as 1,400 athletes from over 20 countries gather for alpine skiing figure skating floor hockey speed skating and cross country events. The games occur April 27 and repeat every four years with next event in Minneapolis in 1990.

Rossburn Rural Municipality 1989 budget raises education levy

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn approved its 1989 budget of 850000, up 50000 from 1988, with a hold the line stance and a mill-rate rise of six for the total levy. Education and municipal taxes increase reflects higher miscellaneous and tax revenues, affecting standard quarter-sections with specified dollar changes. The budget and by law now go to the Department of Municipal Affairs for approval.

Rossburn council learns of fundraising plans for recreation complex

At the March 14 meeting Mrs. Avis Stitt and Pat Roy for the Agri Rec Centre Fund Raising Committee outlined fund raising activities including a household canvas in both the Village and Rural Municipality of Rossburn and a talent night. They asked the council to consider a March 1989 letter requesting a $150 contribution to aid in establishing a new community complex. Trustees Kreshewski and Goletz attended to discuss Pelly Trail School Division matters as council raised concerns about limited courses and a potential second time teacher cut at Rossburn Collegiate. The council deemed the local education program sub standard compared with the division’s west end offerings. The session opened questions about whether graduates of the Pelly Trail division pursue further studies elsewhere.
