Leaf Rapids hosts a winter carnival with Miss Piggy and Vicky Kalynuk among attendees. The league finals feature Shoal Lake Eagles versus Miss Piggy’s team, with games scheduled March 18 and March 20 at 8 30 P.M. Allan Woodhouse of Binscarth won the Pot of Gold in the final against St Lazare.

1981 Rossburn 4-H Beef Club Meeting Report
The Rossburn Elementary School hosted the 1981 second 4-H Beef Club meeting on March 10 with 13 members. New member Nicky Morriss joined, and a progress report on Project Calves was presented. Rose Goletz won the hind quarter beef raffle. The club thanked supporters and set a next meeting for April 14 at 7:30 P.M.

Parkland Library opens new bookmobile service
Parkland Library launches a new bookmobile on March 10, 1981, built in Windsor by Welles Corp at about 30000 dollars. The bus carries over 2500 books with a storefront display for children and features carpeted heated interior, and 34 stops across 25 communities in the Parkland region.

Oakburn Ukrainian Dancers Shine at Brandon Contest
The Oakburn Ukrainian Dancers led by Shirley Sheeshka took part in the Brandon Ukrainian Folk Dancing Competition and Ukrainian Culture Awareness Program at Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on March 14 and 15. Dancers ages 3 to 14 earned honours with the girls receiving an honourable mention and the boys winning first place and a $25 cheque. The boys earned an invitation to the program concert on March 15, competing against Ethlebert Winnipegosis Dauphin Swan River Pine River Erickson and Brandon.
