Local Easter Seal drive renewed by Rossburn Lions Club
The Rossburn Lions announce the 1965 Easter Seal campaign to aid the Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Manitoba. Past donations total $111 in 1963 and $131 in 1964, funding services for crippled children in the district at costs around $450, with six children aided since 1950.

Nick Karpiuk dies at 89 at Erickson Hospital
Nick Karpiuk of Rackham dies at 89 after a year at Sandy Lake Nursing Unit. Born in Western Ukraine he came to Canada in 1929 and worked as a laborer in Rackham. Funeral was held March 11 at 10:00 am at the Ukr Greek Orthodox Church in Sandy Lake. Interment at Municipal Cemetery. Raginski Funeral Home handled arrangements. The local Lions Club urges larger Easter Seal donations, setting a 1965 goal of 240 dollars to aid crippled children and adults in Manitoba.

Weather shifts to normal temps with subzero readings reported

John Derkach, 88, pioneer of Oakburn, born 1877 in Poland, died Feb 28 at Shoal Lake Hospital. Immigrated to Canada in 1913, married Nellie Pshyslowski, farmed near Rossburn, retired 1949 to Oakburn. Survived by daughter Annie Matiowsky and six grandchildren. Funeral held at Oakburn Ukr Catholic Church with Raginski Funeral Home in care.

Joseph Siwak died March 4 at Sacred Heart Hospital in his 84th year. Born March 14 1879 in Shmankiwtsee Ukraine he came to Canada in 1901 and farmed near Angusville. He is survived by two brothers, three sons and four daughters with eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers named. Braendle's Funeral Service handled arrangements.

Large Crowd At Carnival In Rossburn Ice Carnival
Over 800 people attended the Rossburn Ice Carnival sponsored by the Rossburn Lions Club. The event featured a carnival atmosphere on the rink, a notable figure skating program led by Miss Pat Carr, a Schmockey game between the 12 & Anders and the All Stars, and a high school girls exhibition broomball. The crowd praised the skaters and praised mothers for costume work, while the All Stars defeated the 12 & Anders 4-9.

Ideal curling weather for March 8 to 10 brought 8 rinks to the Oakburn Local Ladies Bonspiel. Several first timers enjoyed the sport, with coffee and doughnuts served each evening by helpers. Winners included 1st Event Mrs. Mike Tatkaluk and 2nd Mrs. Darlene Lucyshen. 1st Event 2nd Mrs. W. Sametz and 2nd Mrs. J. Cholka in the second event.

Two Killed Three Injured Southeast of Shortdale
A two car crash Wednesday March 10 nine miles south and three miles east of Shortdale in the Petlura district left Leigh Swenson and Russell Sloan both of Shortdale dead. Ignace Paczkoski of Shortdale was treated and released from Grandview Hospital. Matt and Mike Kukurudz of Shortdale were injured and taken to Grandview Hospital. Mike later transferred to Winnipeg. An inquest was ordered by coroner Dr. B. Dorran of Roblin.
