Elevator Blaze Destroys Ross Turn Pool Elevator in Manitoba
Fire destroyed the Ross turn Pool Elevator and two C N R freight cars on Tuesday night with flames still burning Thursday. Fire brigades from Angusville and Oakburn aided the local department, preventing spread to the National Grain Co elevator. The 1953 building valued about 120000 housed 114000 bushels of grain, mostly 90 percent wheat, a heavy blow to farmers and the Elevator Association ahead of grain cleaning season.

Sotas Named N D P Candidate At Rossburn Nominating
At a March 9 nominating convention in Rossburn Town Hall former C C F candidate and ex Reeve Mike Sotas was named the New Democratic Party candidate for the Marquette federal riding. Also in contention were M S Antonation and Emil Shellborn. The 140 attendees heard remarks on parity prices education and nuclear policy. The event closed with the national anthem and coffee served by local volunteers.

Obituary Henry Sytnyk Passes at 71 in Oakburn
Henry Sytnyk, 71, died March 2 in Oakburn after suffocation at home. Born in Western Ukraine in 1892, he came to Canada in 1913 and worked near Oakburn until retiring in 1953. Prayers were said Monday at Oakburn Parish Hall and funeral at Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with Rev. P. Romanyshyn. Burial in local cemetery. Raginski Funeral Home arranged services.

Obituary for Philip Kotyk of Oakburn and family ties
Philip Kotyk died at Oakburn on Sunday March 3 aged 79 years six months. Born August 15 1883 in Austria he came to Canada in 1899 and farmed in Rogers District. Survived by wife Tekla three sons Michael Brandon Harry Oakburn Stanley Levack Ont two daughters Emily Brandon Margaret Oakburn fifteen grandchildren eleven great grandchildren. Service 10 am Wednesday March 6 at Oakburn Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church conducted by Rev Olach with interment in St John Cemetery Dolyny. Pallbearers listed as Oakburn residents.
