Freezing rain and snow caused outages Sunday night in the Pierson area with power restored later. Ice cleared from transmission lines by crews while highways remained treacherous and school buses were canceled in many districts. The St Lazare Rossburn hockey game was postponed to Tuesday evening due to the conditions.
Firefighters from Oakburn Shoal Lake and Rossburn battled a 2 30 A M blaze at George Polony's honey processing plant on Oakburn main street. Freezing rain and northeast winds hindered efforts and damaged equipment valued at 250000 dollars. The fire started near the building front and caused total loss. alarm delays and a non functioning local fire phone complicated the response.
