Rossburn Lions Annual Sports Day Set For Saturday

Rossburn Lions prepare grounds for a full day of Senior Baseball, Men's Fastball and Minor Baseball events this Saturday June 26. Entries are invited by Norm Major at phone 75 Ressburn. The club reports a $6000 rise in shares since May and six new memberships were approved. The next meeting is July 12 or at the board’s call.

Directors Meet Rossburn Credit Union Society Meeting

The Board of Directors met at their office on Monday June 14 at 8 45 p m with full attendance. The Credit Committee approved 20 loans totaling 10 661 00 and two real estate loans for 10 000 00. The Supervisory Committee reported books in order and ongoing passbook checks numbering about 30 to date.

Double Win For Rossburn Seniors In Weekend Baseball

In Rossburn on Friday June 18 the seniors beat Elphinstone 9 to 7 in a high scoring game. Don Luhowy hit two home runs driving in Warren Brown and Johnnie Ryshytyle on singles and later with Brown aboard in the ninth to seal the win. Brian Kowal earned the victory in relief of Leonard Makedenski. The same day Rossburn shut out Binscorth 7 to 0 as Don Luhowy allowed only two hits for his second win of the weekend.

Mrs Anne McIntosh retires from Manitoba Telephones Rossburn

Anne McIntosh leaves after 13 years 9 months of service at Rossburn where she worked with 31 girls under three chief operators Dolly Miller 1951 Neta Baldrow 1955 and Jean Armstrong 1958 She was the first operator when the switchboard opened in 1913 noting some numbers remain the same today including Bank of Toronto No 3 Co op Store No 20 Pickoffs No 5 and Crowe Lumber No 16 now Beaver Lumber The office stood at Mrs Martha Pedens house.

Lovely double ring wedding at Rossburn United Church

Elaine Isabel Hutton and Thomas John Gibson united in a May 29 ceremony led by Rev. G. Fulford. The procession featured detailed gowns, bouquets, and music with family members as attendants and ushers, followed by a Town Hall reception and a three tier wedding cake.

Rossburn Village Council Sets 1965 Mill Rate

The Rossburn Village Council met June 15 1965 with Mayor Peter Wladyka and four councillors. They approved May 31 1965 financials, granted building permits to four applicants, declined Winnipeg Public Welfare aid, planned a Centennial grant application and public meeting, adopted the constable report, urged a Personal Care Home for Hospital Dist No 7, set 1965 tax levies at 72.1 mills local improved and 67.1 mills others with early payment discounts, and scheduled the next meeting for July 20 1965.

The June Vista Women’s Institute meeting at Mrs. Tess Halliday’s home had 7 members and 1 visitor present. Attendees discussed a Centennial project and the Provincial Convention, noting Manitoba Institutes’ handling of a rapidly changing world. A social lunch followed.
