Corrections Canada approves an August start to replace a dormitory at Rockwood with up to 17 six bedroom houses doubling capacity by 1995. Inmates will cook, wash, and clean. dining moves to home settings as population expands to 160. Nearby Dauphin residents oppose a related hog barn project amid site-search talks.
Central Plains Water Supply Task Force met at Shellmouth Community Hall to discuss Pembina Valley Water Co operative's plan for a regional water system. The proposal could alter Shellmouth Dam operations from flood control toward water retention, shrinking reservoir storage and risking farming lands and riverbank erosion downstream. A study will continue, with further investigation into the project. Meanwhile Morden Hospital expands regional therapy, adding speech therapy to reduce local referrals to Winnipeg. About 80 percent of cases are children, with 20 percent adults. the new speech therapist begins after orientation.
At Rossburn Collegiate two teachers resigned and one contract ended at Major Pratt. A motion to increase a Binscarth maternity leave staff member to 3/4 time was defeated then carried, while other staffing and funding discussions addressed enrollment and division equality concerns. The next meeting is June 29.
