Angusville Moves to Leave Pelly Trail School Division

At a June 13 meeting of the R.M. of Silver Creek council the resolution was adopted to support Angusville ratepayers in seeking to opt out of the Pelly Trail School Division and join the Birdtail River School Division. The transfer area has an assessed value of 1,280,260 dollars.

Native Awareness Day at Rossburn Elementary School

Native Awareness Day was held at Rossburn Elementary on Tuesday June 6 1978 with speakers displays and a native singing and dancing demo. An accompanying note estimated school taxes for a quarter section at 4000 would be about 261.20 in Pelly Trail SD and 212.28 in Birdtail River SD after a 48.98 reduction. A letter of intent was sent to the Division for Thursday evening consideration.

Showery cool weather dampens lake activities this week

A pattern of showery cool weather limited summer use of the lake last week. Jacket days were common and thunderstorms brought light rainfall. Temperatures ranged from the mid 50s to the high 70s with scattered rain totals. This week last year showed higher highs and lower lows.

Recreation notices for Rossburn activities and camps

A bicycle rodeo and safety course are set for Rossburn Elementary School on Saturday June 24 at 10 AM. A Rossman Lake Youth Camp Aquatic Sport Camp shifts to July 12–14, 1978 with a $15 fee due by July 5. ages 10–15 with lifeguard certification eligible. Ukrainian Dance Camp re scheduled to August 14–18 with Winnipeg instructors led by Myron Petrow. $30 per participant. ages 8–15. Pre registration for July swimming lessons runs June 19 to July 5 on Mondays and Wednesdays afternoons. Baseball clinics were held June 17 in Angusville and Rossburn with 17 and 5 participants respectively.

Rossburn Rural Council Reconvenes After Long Meeting

Rossburn Rural Municipality holds a June 12 1978 meeting in the Council Chambers with Reeve John Mitchell and four councillors. Due to an extended agenda the session reconvened June 13 1978 at 8 00 p.m. to complete business.

Thompson Students Enjoy Week in Rossburn

Thirty seven Grade VI students from Thompson billeted in Rossburn from June 12 to 16. They toured the area visiting Riding Mountain National Park, Lone Tree Dairy Farm, Cargill and Pool Elevators, Manco Cheese Plant, and several local sites. The group met Rossburn hosts for a Ukrainian and Native lunch and thanked billeting families, donors, and organizers for a week of learning and friendship.
